I’ve noticed South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas essentially blaming the left for the rise of the right. Yet when supporters of supposedly progressive parties – Labor here, the Democrats in the United States – get too close to questioning those parties’ corporate and Zionist backers, the response is to turn on the working class itself and declare us the problem. That dynamic helps produce governments of the Trump variety, and it risks doing the same for One Nation in Australia (even if the latter still looks unlikely to form government).
Years ago I learned that the Democratic National Committee in the US operates as a for-profit business. That opened my eyes to a wider truth: political parties often care less about who holds office than about ensuring their financial backers keep making money. We’ve seen this clearly in America. For years the Democrats did little of substance to rein in Trump or protect citizens’ rights, yet the stock market soared to record highs under their influence. The same pattern is becoming obvious here.
Labor has repeatedly refused to stand up for the poor and working class while we are being hammered by stock-market-driven corporations such as Coles, Woolworths and the energy companies. Those energy companies are now generating electricity more cheaply than ever thanks to renewables, yet they still claim renewables have driven prices through the roof. That claim serves their share-price promises, not the public.
In the United States the Democrats deliberately ignored the working class, and the result was Trump – along with further unrestrained stock-market gains. Anthony Albanese is now in similar territory. He is, in practice, a Tory. He will come tumbling down. The tragedy is that we currently have no one of real worth to replace him with.
Are we being conned? Unfortunately, the evidence has been staring us in the face for a long time.

The leader of the One nation shitheap, Ms. P Handjob, is as enticing as a poke in the orifice with a poxed porkypole, for NEVER has as revolting an ignorant loudmouthed loser type ever floated up in politics like scum on a blocked dunny. What type of rational, informed, serious, decent person could ever support a filthy myth, a dirty dream, a forlorn hope, a grain of pain, an ulcerous anus of a dud. And B Joyce, dirty drunken dribbling drongo dreg, is there to shout support for the mad tart. Abbott, Morrison, Dutton were putridity enough, for we need some quality political leadership now and how do we hope for that? More than ever, owners and controllers sell us fog.., cloud and streaming, etc., so we do not have anything solid, even cash in hand, just bills, threats, worse positions, redundancies, sackings, electronic buggered slaves.
Although in theory we have a multi-party system, in practice we’ve been governed since Federation by a duopoly.
The two dominant political outlooks pass the reins of government back and forth in a semblance of democracy, but this is actually an exercise in entrenching a bureaucracy mind-set within the dominant parties.
Why?
Because the system is so predictable, so stable, that lucrative careers can be forged within the major parties with no danger that electoral misfortune can disrupt those careers.
The main priority of the careerists therefore becomes the stability of the party, and then the stability of the duopoly arrangement.
In such a system, governing for the people only comes in at third place on the priority scale.
The governing party, Labor or Coalition, does just enough for the people to retain credibility and support.
But such an outlook, while it has been remarkably successful for those involved for well over half a century, has the fatal flaw that eventually the voters work out that all is not well.
At that point, some will turn to any fool offering a better way.
The duopoly parties have ceded the power to govern to the imperatives of liberal economic theory.
If the voters kill off the duopoly, One Nation will do the same.
The only chance to kill the duopoly successfully will be to elect a coalition of progressive parties.
Would that be messy?
Certainly, but better than the relentless weakening of the country that we see now.
My lament post the last election of 2025 was that there would be buyer’s remorse!
Why? People still vote from the hip pocket, not for the good of the overall country, so it’s not just politicians that lack vision, ethics and good social policy, who vote for lobbyists and fossil fuel degradation.
Bitter medicine never tastes good.

Oh I always blame the voter, Heather. The politicians just take advantage of the fact that most people have very low standards, expect very little, and happy to cop whatever foul policies the pollies inflict on us, so long as they don’t have to think about it very much. This has been the case for decades. Only now is there a slight stirring among the masses that maybe, just maybe, we deserve better. Better services, better policies, more ethics, less hate, more fairness. It may be dawning on them that if you keep voting the way you’ve always voted, you keep getting the same.
@ Jen: Agreed ….. especially in New England where a adulterous, alcoholic, bigoted, corrupt, deceitful, fornicating, philandering, self-serving misogynist is considered a suitable representative of the electorate. Sometimes I think that Merinos sheep are smarter than the graziers for having their brains located in their fleece, that gets shorn off every year.
