Just when you think Donald Trump has reached the peak of bizarre commentary, he scales new heights. His latest gem? Crime in Los Angeles is apparently so bad that a friend leaves his garage door wide open so burglars can stroll in, help themselves, and leave without damaging the door.
And it doesn’t stop there. Trump claims he knows someone who leaves their car trunk open for thieves, so they can steal what they like without damaging the car. Yes, you read that correctly.
Of course, there’s no evidence – none – that anyone in Los Angeles (or anywhere else on planet Earth) is adopting this “open door policy” toward burglars. It’s pure Trump: a tall tale delivered with a straight face, as though personal anecdotes and urban legends qualify as public policy analysis.
The image itself is laughable: neatly parked cars with their trunks propped open, suburban streets lined with welcoming garages, and burglars politely wandering from house to house like they’re browsing at a weekend garage sale.
It’s nonsense, but it’s also telling. Trump can’t resist exaggeration, and when exaggeration isn’t enough, he makes things up. In the process, he turns himself – yet again – into a walking punchline.
If the world needed proof that Trump has become a parody of himself, his “garage door” theory just nailed it shut. Or in Trump’s fantasy America, perhaps we should say: it left it wide open.

Donald Dickrubba is a menace to his nation, to all of us, being sick, mentally challenged, probably poxed, certainly supernutty. Lies, crimes, outbursts, fantasticals, this is cyclonic vomiting spray constantly. He is the most uncivilised erratic (rat for short) political ulcerated idiot. May he be eliminated, evaporated, dissipated, terminated soon.
I fear there is some truth in this. My brother lived in NY City during the 80’s. He would leave his glovebox open and the door unlocked to stop robbers from damaging the car to break in and also to see that there were no valuables in the car.
New home construction is a barometer for gauging how well an economy is doing.
Despite a housing shortage in the US home building has stalled under Trump – two Australian companies who rely heavily on their American operations (Hardie Industries supplying dry-wall products and Reece Plumbing supplying taps and bathroom fittings) have both posted performance downgrades in recent days : Hardie shares plunged 28% and Reece fell by 16.42%.
General uncertainty in the US economy, at home and abroad, is directly the result of Trump’s erratic economic policy decisions.
Don’t be fooled. He is doing the same type of dog-whistling Howard did for years.
