From Policy to Practice: Proudly Human Helps Shape AI Standards for Australia and the World

In a global first, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced last Wednesday that Australia will lead the world in developing a national AI framework that will include data-center rules, integrated governance and protection for copyrighted material.

Proudly Human, the international certification organization that verifies and labels human-created content, applauds the Australian Government’s approach and this landmark initiative for Australia to shape the global future of AI.

The challenge is to translate this moment into practical frameworks that can be applied appropriately across all creative industries.

As we now turn to what these AI standards should be, Proudly Human is working to help develop fit-for-purpose AI guardrails. The creative industries are urgently calling out for practical standards that protect their work, that we can all understand and trust. Since being founded in 2025, Proudly Human has worked alongside partners in the creative industries to develop practical standards that distinguish human created work from AI generated content.

“Providing the clarity to help consumers confidently choose human-created content is a fundamental right in an era where AI is increasingly masquerading as human,” said Dr Alan Finkel. “We have worked closely with representatives across the creative arts to develop de minimis standards to delineate acceptable AI usage.

In general, these are minimal usages of AI for technical assistance at a level that would not eliminate the copyrightable nature of the work. The Government does not need to start from scratch. It is in the national interest that we all work together to find the best solution, and there is no time to waste.”

Importantly, Proudly Human’s verification process has been designed to be realistic and easily implemented.

According to Leo Faber, Head of Partnerships and Industry Engagement at Proudly Human, “We are working with industry partners to distinguish between AI as a tool and AI masquerading as human creativity. We are not anti-AI; we are pro-human. Audiences deserve to be told whether what they are offered is human-created or AI-generated so they can make an informed choice.”
