Of course when I say that nobody’s following Donald Trump, I’m sure that there are people out there who’ll tell me that he has a lot of support…
At which point I could point out that it’s very hard to follow Donald when he doesn’t actually finish his… you know, sentences are usually… like thoughts… nobody’s ever finished a thought before but… this is incredible… he could be the greatest president… but… yes, it’s really incredible…
But anyway, it does seem like a contradiction to claim to be the leader of the free world and then complain that none of your allies are following you into a war that you started without asking them for their thoughts. Of course, some will say that takes away the element of surprise and if there’s one thing that Trump is good at it’s doing the surprising thing. He had no idea that he was going to back down and not bomb Iran “back to the Stone Age”… Unless, of course, you’re one of those working on the theory that everything he does is just to get a better deal. Others seem to think that when he said that today would be “the end of a civilisation” that would never come back, he meant the United States, not Iran, but calling the USA a civilisation may be a stretch at the moment.
Whatever, I’m relieved that Trump has pulled back and announced that hostilities are ceasing for two weeks… not that this means that hostilities will actually cease but it does mean that he won’t be bombing the infrastructure and ordering his defence force to commit war crimes.
Speaking of war crimes, I must say that I’m a bit confused by some of the comments on the Ben Roberts-Smith charges. I make no comment on the guilt or innocence of the man himself because it’s a matter that is likely to go before a judge and jury and that’s the proper place for such things to be decided. No, my confusion is from some who are writing to say that they support him no matter what and things along the lines of he was in a war and we can’t judge because war is different from everyday life so…
Granted, I’ve never been in a war and I don’t know what I’d do but I do know that – as a general principle – you can’t say it’s a war so anything goes and there are no rules of engagement and there are no civilised standards and that the Geneva convention is a foreign document so it only applies to foreigners and we can do whatever because we’re always the good guys.
And speaking of foreign documents, did you happen to catch that video of Gary Ablett Senior talking about the communist Albanese government? My best hope for Mr Ablett is that this is part of his attempt to sue the AFL for his head injuries. I did wonder if it was a very old tape because he did mention how laws were invalid without the Queen’s seal but there was a very narrow timeframe where we had both the Queen alive and Albo as PM. Whatever, he certainly belongs to that group of people who are very concerned that the current Labor Party are a bunch of communists, completely unaware that most actual communists would think that Mr Albanese and friends were the lackey lapdogs of the capitalist overlords. My response to many of these people is to say, “Communist, eh? I’d like to hear your definition of that because it’s very likely to be the definitive Dunning-Kruger example of the year.”
Anyway, it’s good that Trump managed to give his great Easter message about opening the “fuckin’ strait” early in the morning before his address to the children where he talked about the Iran situation without going on to tell the kiddies to “find the fuckin’ eggs and piss off before someone brings up the Epstein files”.
Mm, seeing Trump with that bunny reminds me of the Jimmy Stewart film “Harvey” which contains the memorable line:

Regardless of the TACO moment this morning the Americans stuffed up by starting a war with Iran for the benefit of Butcher Bibi and MBS …..and naturally the American military industrial complex that manufactures military armaments for profit. Has anybody thought about the 200+ fighter jets MBS purchased from the USA (Undemocratic Sewer of Apartheid) for ”defence purposes”??
