Well Done Angus And A Medium Rare Jane

I’m waiting for the headline: TAYLOR MADE ALTERATION

Certainly some subeditor has been waiting ever since it was first suggested that Angus Taylor would challenge Suss Ley for the leadership. I’m trying to remember the exact date, but it was sometime in June of last year when it was clear that she wasn’t up to the job because… um, how do I put this… she didn’t have the… er, qualifications to succeed as a Liberal leader.

It’s good that they’ve appointed Jane Hume as deputy because here’s a certain beauty in Angus being member for Hume and that being Jane’s last name. It also shows that they don’t really have a problem with women so long as they have a man in the top job. Just like Julie Bishop, she made a great deputy to several leaders but didn’t have the merit for the top job when there was a perfectly competent male wanting the job.

Of course, when I say “perfectly competent” what I mean is that the male in question has the capacity to remember talking points and repeat them no matter what the question is.

Whoever said, “Angus was born with a silver foot in his mouth!” was being most unfair.

And you’ll notice that Mr Taylor’s jumped on the immigration theme already.

It’s interesting that, once we no longer have enough boats arriving to play to people’s xenophobia, we stop complaining that people are “illegal immigrants” and just start attacking the legal ones.

Anyway, it strikes me that banging the immigration drum has a big risk. If you worry some voters about all these strangers coming into the country and replacing us – and by “us” I just mean those who have been here long enough to vote Liberal – then some voters may actually decide, “You were in government just a few years ago and you didn’t stop all these foreigners, so maybe we should give Pauline a go!”

Yes, I think some people will tell you not to think they’re being racist… that they’re not against immigrants as such, it’s just that some of them are from other countries that don’t share our culinary habits and have accents and we’d really prefer Australian migrants who like football and the flag but they’re already here, so we should just stop now so that we can build houses.

I noticed an ad from some group insisting that ALL politicians should be born in Australia, which made me wonder what they had against Sussan Ley and Tony Abbott and Malcolm Roberts and…

Speaking of Tony who knights princes and anoints Liberal leaders, I couldn’t help but wonder about his performance on 730 last night. He informed us that we need to put more emphasis on our unity and not nearly as much on our diversity. One way of doing that, he insisted, is by having “national pride and respecting national symbols such as the flag” because nothing helps unity like insisting that everyone is proud and respects one flag and complains bitterly if anyone displays another flag, such as the Indigenous one. The important thing, he told us, is to keep Australia Australian, without adding anything about the need to keep our head of state, British. We need to have immigrants who accept “Australian values” which is a wonderfully vague and fluid term which alters depending on who is saying it and who they’re talking about. For example, we value free speech unless someone says something that means we should deport them, unless they’re Australian, in which case we should cancel them in a non-cancel culture sort of way. He expressed a preference for the way immigration worked in the fifties, sixties and seventies. I presume he wasn’t suggesting a return to the White Australia policy, because that ended in 1973 but I can’t be sure.

When pressed about how the Liberals should counter the rise of One Nation, Tony showed how up to date he is with current trends by saying:

“I mean if I’m working for Holden, I can respect Ford, but in the end my job as a Holden executive is to make Holdens the best possible car.”

Of course, one wonders where he’s moved to in order to be a Holden executive making Holden the best possible car because it sure ain’t Australia. Now, I’m not going to blame Tony for Holden closing down here just because he was PM when it happened… or was it just announced when it happened because he wasn’t around for that long.

Still, I’m sure that if Tones were to move to another country in order to work there, he’d immediately take on board all the values of that country and there’d be no pining for Australia… or England.

  1. It seems that the liberal party require a slightly bulging jockstrap as an intellectual input into leadership, though the redskulled broom jockey could surely borrow/fake/steal/pad quite convincingly. In the polls it will still be Angus Trail Ya and Jane Who Ermm, (or Why). Conservatives fail because there is a crook rigged society setup, which their donors have “constructed” anyway. If only the progressive side would fight more, better, beneficially, for us all, in balance and harmony. That would disarm right wing shitheadery everywhere, no? Imagine, no more Littlepod or Barnaby Juiced, or even the Manly Masturbator and S. Horrorshow. A pox.., gone.

  2. Great commentary. I really think they may find flaws in the new Taylor Made Suit. Good to know Abbott is stilll out there demonstrating that you don’t have to lead the Liberal Party to celebrate irrelevancy. As for Sussan she tried her best, why on earth was she born a woman in a man’s world? As for our continuing tilt at democracy, we still need a good, strong thinking person’s opposition. So, where can we get one?

  3. The lost feminist trifecta ….. Julie Bishop, Sus$san Ley and now Just Humus. Women just have to learn that Australian is too complex for male politicians so they have to practice misogyny to insure that only the least capable men are pre-selected for Parliament, to be manipulated by foreign owned multinational corporation ”political donors” against the benefit of the Australian voters who elected the politicians.

Nowhere in COALition politics is there any outstanding talent having a master plan for improving Australia for the benefit of the Australian voters!!

The less said about RAbbott, the Suppository of all political wisdom, the better. Another political relic to roll out for political comment when the sitting COALition politicians are tongue-tied, or too involved in promoting their personal pecuniary interests.

But the future looks bright ….. RAbbott was tossed out by a very competent INDEPENDENT (Teal) candidate, Zali Steggall, and already INDEPENDENT candidates Michelle Millthorpe, backed by Climate 200 (a Teal) while Helen Dalton NSW INDEPENDENT MP is being urged to step up to Canberra after a distinguished career representing the best interests of voters in the NSW Murray electorate.

Millthorpe reduced the Liarbral$ election winning 2PP margin to 6.2% in 2025, possibly based on the excellent representation of 4/8 regional INDEPENDENT MPs in NSW electorates west of the range.

  4. Albo would do well to let Angus wait the full period before the next election. The longer he is LNP leader the more stupid blunders he will make. I am really enjoying the comments like “Born with a silver foot in his mouth” and “Everything Angus touches turns to shit.” and “The best qualified idiot they have met.” Voters must keep in mind all the stuff ups as well as the dodgy business actions Taylor has been involved in come the next election.
    If he lasts that long.

  5. Rossleigh,

The Mad Monk is all but unemployable here and in the rest of the world. That’s why he continues to do the bad stench returns and coming back here to annoint us idiots with his wisdom and deep thought. He’s got nowhere else to go and he’s not old enough to be put in a big jar of formaldahyde next to his idol Ol’ Caterpillar Eyebrows. There’s a sign on the jar that reads, “Only to be decanted when the Libs fuck things up badly enough to warrant bringing the near dead out to spout bullshit.” Onion Man can only dream of getting to that stage.

  6. Rossleigh,

Perfectly summed up, brought a smile to my face when I think back to my early medical career working with BIG jars and formaldhyde solution for preserving dead things, lizard tongues also comes to mind… Pale Voices afloat in a rudderless ship consigned to nothingness.

  7. Just a point of order,

If someone wants to be anti-immigration it should definitely not be regarded as racist. Why? Because the immigrant and the anti-immigrant belong to exactly the same one and only race as do we all. And there are reasonable arguments for opposing immigration that have nothing to do with the false belief in different races.

The anti-immigrant can be called xenophobic because he objects to people from elsewhere and the problem of xenophobia can be addressed rationally instead of trying to cope with people who irrationally regard people as inferior just because they were not born into their own non-existent superior race.

It’s long overdue that we give up this pretence that people belong to different races. Eliminate racism by eliminating the pretence that there are different races. People in the past didn’t know any better. We do because we live in a world illuminated by genetic science. The human genome has been mapped and used to measure genetic diversity between groups of people all over the world. Now we know there is only one race of existant humans and we all belong to it. Birth is no longer an excuse for privilege or discrimination.

The advantage of this is that we can now get to the bottom of why people dislike foreigners and people who don’t look or behave the same as they do. The pretence that it is a matter of racism between different non-existent races is a formidable barrier to understanding the real reasons why we don’t get along with other groups of people more sensibly.

  8. Indeed B Sullivan. Of course, many people actually, or for convenience, adhere (at least in public) to arcane BS, including that of selected parts of the Bible.

As for Rossleigh’s satire, spot on. Just luv “Well-done Angus and medium-rare Jane.”

  9. Sully,
Or you could frame racism as what it is: the use of specific physical and/or cultural markers to distinguish the other and marginalise them. A social construct does not need actual scientifically verifiable reality to still exist and still affect behaviour.

  10. Racism is not logical as all humans are approximately 99.5% to 99.9% genetically identical, with only about 0.1% to 0.5% of DNA accounting for individual differences. There is no master race.
