The state visit of Israeli President Isaac Herzog is not a diplomatic event. It is a crystallization of Australia’s comprehensive moral and legal failure. This article analyses the invitation through three lenses: 1) Its violation of international legal principle in the context of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) proceedings; 2) Its function as a strategic distraction from catastrophic domestic neglect; and 3) Its revelation of a captured political narrative, where a foreign state accused of genocide commands more political capital in Canberra than Australia’s own hungry, homeless, and First Nations peoples. We argue this represents not an error in judgement, but the logical endpoint of a political duopoly that has abandoned the foundational duty of the state: to protect its people and uphold the law.
The Legal & Moral Vacuum: Rolling Out the Red Carpet for the Accused
The International Court of Justice, in its 26 January 2024 provisional measures order (South Africa v. Israel), found it “plausible” that Israel’s acts in Gaza amount to genocide – a crime with no statute of limitations, considered erga omnes (a concern to all). The Court ordered Israel to take all measures to prevent genocidal acts.
Australia’s response, as a signatory to the Genocide Convention, should be unambiguous: to avoid any action that could constitute complicity. Instead, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese chooses to extend the highest diplomatic honour – a state visit – to the head of state of the accused nation.
The Legal Implication: This act provides political legitimization and comfort to a state defending itself against the world’s most serious charge. It actively undermines the ICJ’s authority and Australia’s own treaty obligations. Legally, it moves Australia closer to the sphere of an accessory after the fact.
The Moral Failure: It declares that geopolitical alignment and domestic political calculation (fear of being labelled “antisemitic,” desire to appease a vocal lobby) trump the foundational moral imperative: “Do not honour those plausibly engaged in the extermination of a people.” It is a failure of moral imagination so profound it renders the term “values-based foreign policy” a sick joke.
The Domestic Distraction: Bread, Circuses, and a Genocide
The invitation serves a crucial domestic political function: distraction.
While the government prepares red carpets and state banquets for a president of a genocide-accused state, it systematically neglects its own citizens:
- Indigenous Neglect: The Closing the Gap strategy remains a chronicle of failure. Life expectancy, incarceration, and child removal gaps are entrenched. The Uluru Statement from the Heart gathers dust.
- Child Poverty & Food Insecurity: An estimated 1 in 6 Australian children live in poverty. Food bank demand has skyrocketed. The government’s response is piecemeal, failing to address structural drivers like stagnant wages and unaffordable housing.
- Housing Insecurity: A national crisis. Rents are untenable, social housing waitlists stretch for years, and home ownership is a fading dream for a generation. The policy response is inadequate, favouring investor incentives over tenant security.
The Calculated Calculus: The spectacle of the Herzog visit – with its manufactured gravitas and “complex” geopolitical commentary – dominates news cycles. It pushes stories of Indigenous suffering, hungry children, and bankrupt families off the front page. It is a modern “bread and circuses” tactic, where the “circus” is a diplomatic endorsement of atrocity, used to distract from the government’s failure to provide the “bread” of basic security for its people.
The Captured Narrative: How a Foreign Agenda Became Bipartisan Doctrine
The most alarming aspect is the bipartisan consensus. The opposition, under a leader who declares “I am a Zionist,” is even more fervent in its support. There is no major political party offering a principled alternative.
This reveals a captured narrative. The lobbying power, political donations, and ideological networks aligned with the Israeli state have succeeded in making support for its actions – regardless of their legal or moral character – a non-negotiable tenet of Australian political belonging. To dissent is to be exiled from “serious” political discourse, branded an extremist.
Meanwhile, the lobbying power of hungry children, of the homeless, of First Nations communities, is zero. They have no well-funded think tanks, no media empires, no network of donors embedded in party machines. Their suffering does not capture the narrative. It is merely a “social issue” to be “managed,” not a fundamental breach of the social contract requiring urgent, radical redress.
The Herzog invitation is the ultimate symbol of this capture. It demonstrates that the Australian political class is more afraid of the censure of a foreign-aligned lobby than it is ashamed of its failure to its own people or its complicity in a genocide.
Conclusion: The Betrayal is Complete
The Herzog invitation is not an isolated misstep. It is the symptom of a terminal disease in Australian governance.
It reveals a state that:
- Abandons international law when inconvenient.
- Uses foreign spectacle to mask domestic dereliction of duty.
- Has sold its political soul to a foreign agenda, while the agendas of its most vulnerable citizens go unheard.
This is more than a failure of the Albanese government. It is the failure of the Australian project as currently constituted. It proves that the existing political machinery is incapable of moral clarity, legal integrity, or primary loyalty to the Australian people.
The red carpet for Herzog will be rolled out over the broken promises to Indigenous Australia, over the empty cupboards of food-insecure families, and over the crushed bones of Gaza’s children. It will be the most expensive, most shameful piece of fabric ever laid on Australian soil.
The question is no longer about this visit. It is about what Australians will do with a political system that so openly, so brazenly, holds them in such profound contempt.

In a long career in education areas, I opposed anti-semitism by malicious students and still say that anyone in Australia can declare a belief openly. But the president of a nation created by zionist policy and strategy of murder, theft, occupation, humiliation and supremacist garbage based on superstition, myth, fantasy, being invited here for tea and bikkies, is totally, most horribly wrong. Decency, law, have died, been forgotten, and cunning money, media maggot influence and gutless political fear have made us racist savages, rotten examples of maggotry.
Phil Pryor, I admit to sitting in the shadow of your enlightened observations but nevertheless maintain an unflagging admiration for your wit and wisdom. With respect to your comment above, I’d offer the following, in particular with respect to your closing sentence: Pendulums, by their very nature, swing; their periodicity determined by length and the force of gravity. Their presence can be observed in human affairs. Darkness before light, ignorance before wisdom, foolishness before sobriety and so on. Impossible, perhaps, to predict when and where and how and why, but I think these days will come to an end, somehow.
He’s a miserable, dull and hate-filled bugger isn’t he – written all over his face – beliefs and ideology on his sleeve, and an aura of ignorance, vengeance and bitterness like a dark cloud… that’s it black fog. He can’t even be bothered to shave and his eyes seem to wander out of the back of his head with a thoroughly depressed, sunken glazed look.
Perhaps there is a God after all (of the vengeance kind), for how did he ever get to be President of Israel, not that that could be acclaimed as a desirable goal on any moral standards – premeditated murder of an entire nation and its nationhood, 21,000 children, more likely double or treble that not including the larger numbers maimed. They would have known that around 47% of the population were children, how could he or they possibly miss that? They didn’t, it was a calculated destruction of an entire nation’s youth, the next two generations at least – a gap beyond any cultural, educational or economic bridge to span. Over a million children dead, maimed, seriously traumatised and no homes to go to, no country – a modern day holocaust right next door to one of the wealthiest and most privileged nations on Earth, given them graciously by the UN and its victorious power brokers, primarily USA and UK.
You are right – this was not a diplomatic event. It was a siege, to arrest the heart of our nation, put it into fibrillation, create the scenes we all knew would come, the government against its people and vice versa, a projection, transference of their own demise and making at home in Israel, for that is the only way evil can prevail – divide and conquer, twist all the arguments inside out till it makes no sense, just as Trump does, and then lay siege digging endless tunnels, gaslighting, bullying, disrupting and overloading the charge to stun your foe – Charge of the Zionists waving their sharp lipped sabres through the streets of Sydney, while he attends to the indoctrinated private school of an elitist foundation.
It’s religious schools and institutions like these of all faiths that alongside the private secular schools from which our politicians are bred and cultivated to rule, with the economic and legislative concessions and advantages we mostly pay for, give them over our public sector education, that has to fight for every cent that falls off the table, regardless of which Party is in power. We impoverish ourselves and the majority of Australians of all ethnicities, but especially indigenous – our first Australians.
Those three matters you lead with Andrew: violation of international legal responsibilities, domestic neglect, and captured narrative surely have their divisions, roots and moral-social-educational blindness in the playing fields of youth, our private privileged and unaccountable educational system, where stones are merely polished off with the same wealth, cloth and breath they have already been given at university. How can a private school system, better part funded from the public sector to intensify its social advantage and independence over society possibly be expected to serve the interests of society in a sociopolitical, economic, moral and equitable way? It is incongruent.
Is it little wonder on day one Herzog targets such a school and to dress up his visit as a saviour, a good guy – the very thing he is not, nothing but one of the world’s worst war criminals in our modern era alongside those we already know and are likely pulling his strings and favours. What grieves me is all those children in their innocence being misled, which one day they will have to find a resolution for, instead of pursuing more meaningful and productive lives, unhindered, unchained in and for a more functional society of their making for their time.
Labor is selling our soul to Zion as we sell our corporeal bodies to the USA, as if the $400 billion dollar bill for subs that will never materialise will some how save us from the predetermined foe of another nation, so we kowtow to Israel in the strangest and unfathomable manner I have ever seen, losing our ‘testicles’, our morals and values to a national genocidal bigot like Herzog, Netanyahu and a captured nation in the Middle East that has nowhere else to go – even when most of the international community have already rejected the dying breath of the fascist bully, that seems to have the dirt, that black fog on everyone.
It is utterly outrageous heresy, hegemony, and it forces Australia to be complicit in the worst war crimes and crimes against humanity we have seen since the end of WWII. And that may be the point, Israel falls ergo so do we, we go down with them. Albanese leads us there, a nation of the unwilling, betraying all that we profess to stand for and that our youth a century ago fought for in two world wars, and many others since, though we simply bleated our loyalty to USA like sheep to the wolf.
By Jupiter, it is a mistake of Olympian proportions and Athena, agape has left the room. Sadly there is no Perseus among us to sleigh this monster, this doing – And just so the Zionist lobby out there understand me, this is called metaphor (of the satirical kind), we have had many through history who have used such literary devices to help us find our way, heal the blind and deaf ears of leaders. This is not antisemitism, because as a humanitarian, I (we here) call out all forms of racism and that includes antisemitism. I will not have my words twisted to suit another’s illegitimate legal argument, as none of us here should ever stand for.
So Albanese leads us into the rocky waters of treachery, and he simply doesn’t seem to get it, which befuddles my little head completely. For what is a fool but to remind us of our own foolishness and folly at the end of a play.
Apart from all the observations above, what we are witnessing here is our own version of sociopathic governance….

While agreeing with the articles content, I see this as a direct reflection on the electorate. Politics in this country has been in decline ever since the loss of a free press/media.
Jon Angel alludes to complicity. Minns and Albo try to impose it and the dull elements, manipulated by msm, won’t/can’t see through it.
Good coment from Jon Chesterton.
What a wonderful collection of informative objective replies that exceed my ability to add anything else.
Well, OK ….. my favourite strategy of this troubled time, replacing the flag-staff on Canberra Parliament House with a menorah to recognise that ZIONAZIS have taken over Australeibler foreign policy as part of becoming the distant vassal state of Isrevil.
As Jon Chesterson notes, the domestic policy problems created by too many years of COALition bending over for the Mainstream Media Manipulation Monopoly is shown that the ”private school little darlings” have little imagination and few ideas about how to make Australia a better place for ALL AUSTRALIANS – NOT JUST ”POLITICAL DONORS” to the Coalition and other political parties. Far better to follow outdated and now irrelevant 19th century political dreams of empire that were extinguished in the ”peace” of 1945 ….. and the forelock tugging throughout the Menzies era.
The shit has well and truly hit the fan, as they say, with Herzog’s visit. Meanwhile in Israel Netanyahu declare “No two State Solution”. Hey! wouldn’t you know it. It’s almost a given that this would happen. How is Albo going to get out of this? It looks like a mistake but am sure he will treat it as a process, and come out okay. It has really bought the truth home to roost that’s for sure. It has shown us how bad the NSW Police really are. But they have always looked very scary. Probably corrupt as all hell too. It is sorting out the public into Albo knockers and the more decent people. Best to know who your enemy really is. So let’s face it, it’s the Zionist bullies, the Putin bullies, the Trumpian bullies, the Orban bullies, closer to home the LNP bullies, Greens bullies and One Nation bullies…must be more out there too.
Amen to all of the above. It might not be important but Iam still unsure how the invitation to the war criminal, Herzog, was issued. I understood it to have been issued by one of the Zionist organisations and endorsed by the PM but Albanese told parliament it had been issued by the GG from one head of state to another. I believe the GG acts on the instructions of the PM, so has Sam been verballed by the PM and if so has he misled Parliament? If this question is asked I expect the usual sophistry in response.
It was my understanding that Albanese directed the GG, according to the Guardian, but I don’t think we have absolute clarity on this because it makes sense – it could have been a head of State thing one to another – which in my mind would have been unconstitutional unless GG had cleared it with the PM. GG does not have authority to act independently on behalf of State on foreign or domestic affairs, unlike a President in the Republic model. We are not a Republic. Either way Albo has gotten us into this mess because he has clearly spoken out quite clearly in support of this ridiculous event. Should never have happened period, and now ordinary Australians are being shat upon by police forces especially in NSW – bloody punching thugs out of control and misled by Minns; and yes we are already operating like a police State. Albanese must address this in the next few weeks and get State Premiers to resolve the complete breakdown of trust and reckless assaultive behaviour of our Police forces on ordinary citizens, and stop this scapegoating and excuses for bad behaviour blaming others – That’s what Trump does and it is not acceptable. Minns does it and it is not acceptable. The police and Minns are answerable to the public and they need to show some respect and dignity. Minns MUST apologise, he got the equation totally wrong and he needs to butt out of foreign affairs – It is not his goddam business, as for his antisemitism spit, I’m not going there on this thread, except to say he is a complete ass.
On the bully card – I don’t agree on Australian Greens being labelled bullies. They are not, in fact it is the other way round. Albanese and Labor treat them in a very dismissive and arrogant manner – big Party politic (capital P) like big brother. He treats the bad boys opposition with more respect, they don’t deserve. This disturbs me. The Greens, Teals and Cross bench are the only agencies in Parliament that are in step with the majority fair minded centrist-progressive public – all those humanitarians and young ones out there who are seeking a fairer world for all, which they have every right to do. There are very few policies and intentions I can fault them on unlike Labor and all the others to the bigoted and abusive self serving right, who still have gotten away with massive corruptions in all areas of policy, governance and behaviour from Howard through to Morrison. Still waiting for justice and accountability to be served, but expect it will never come. As a consequence it will be repeated, and we as a nation will fall even further behind than other comparable nations, especially in public infrastructure, self-sufficiency, sovereignty and equity. To do that we must cancel the subs before our treasury gets totally emptied for zilch and left on our own to deal with a proud dragon we stupidly provoked.
The power of the Jewish lobby has seen the forced dismissal of a muslim voice on the ABC, even a week long contract was too great to countenance, the support for, or is lack of objective criticism of the on-going genocide in Palestine/Israel and the West Bank, the ongoing vilification of Islam leads to events such as Bondi.
Are Jews the only victims?
They seem to have the loudest voice!
No I am NOT antisemitic, I am a humanitarian, and feel that too many voices are silenced and one voice commands way too much airspace.
The invitation for the Israeli President to visit was endorsed by the government, but initiated as a political wedge point.
Imagine the hew and cry which would happen if the President of Iran was invited to visit.
Yes, Bondi was a tragic event, a terrorist attack motivated by religious and ethnic divisions, and there in lied the heart of the problem, that we have leaders in those communities who seem to thrive on their ‘specialness’, whether Judaic, Muslim, Christian, Hindu or Sikh, surely we can respect difference, surely the leadership of each faith can moderate their expressions of difference.
Political stunts such as the Herzog visit only heighten tensions, but (Yes, deliberately) place the Prime Minister, of whichever political persuasion in a corner.
@ Bert Hetebry: The Zionist Federation of Australia (ZFA) initiated the Herzog state visit invitation, without any authority and contrary to protocol. GoSlo Albo was chatted by his ZIONIST Masters and recognised that gg Sham Moyston was required by proper protocol to make this unwanted invitation.
Lap-dog Minns was directed to provide ”cover” and ”police protection” for the news footage that would be exported to foreign news services to show that NSW Police were as violent as any ICE agents. Shades of the Vietnam protests!!
All a BIG CIRCUS for foreign news outlets to show that the ZIONISTS controlled the Australeibler and NSW Minus governments. Next will be a menorah replacing the Canberra Parliament House flag-staff.
New England Cocky, Yes, right on all counts. For Albo, his was the unfortunate position of being PM at this time. The pressure put on by the Zionist lobby is unrelenting, and includes the use of main stream as well as social media.
Hard truths from Dr Klein hitting home.
The statement below struck me as touching on something sinister, something slithering into the light but not enough to put my finger on, and I wonder what others think:
‘And that may be the point, Israel falls ergo so do we, go down with them.’
Probably influenced by the oozing out of the Epstein files and the vast international/geopolitical networks of influence being revealed, I fancy Netanyahu threatening his Coalition cronies with, ‘I go down, you go down with me buddy’ – that this threat somehow encapsulates the dynamics of the geopolitics in a deadly dance with our compromised duopoly into which Albanese has wedged himself.
There’s something about professional ethics, personal and organisational integrity and accountability that has little resistance to transgressed boundaries for very long. Seems someone’s always got something on someone else that can be used for leverage. Then there’s the quid pro quo as par for the course.
Politics 101.
Integrity is a fragile thing. Corruption becomes normalised when a democracy ceases being representative. Your country starts being run like a business with no oversight.
So it was hard to stomach today’s pic of Albanese apparently indulging in a private joke with Herzog while attending the Chabad of Bondi Synagogue for Hebrew prayers and “to embrace relatives of the 15 people killed in the December 14 terrorist attack.”
Just clarifying something New England Cocky said, ‘Albo was chatted by his ZIONIST Masters and recognised that #gg Sham Moyston was required by proper protocol# to make this unwanted invitation’.
There are two possible meanings here: (1) if Albo had already decided to invite, protocol requires this proceeds through the GG, Head of State to HoS; or (2) GG was required by protocol under the current circumstances, Bondi deaths and ZFO lobby to invite and Albo had no choice.
I assume it is the former meaning, in which case Albo called the shot. That being the case what leverage does the ZFO lobby have over our PM and government, that Albo would acquiesce to this demand in flagrant disregard to the will of the people who had already made their concerns in every capital city across Australia the day of the Sydney Harbour Bridge march, and that Minns tried to openly suppress in Court unsuccessfully? Why would Albo give voice to ZFO with no representative or constitutional power or right against the democratic and constitutional rights of the people and Australia’s interests? Herein lies a sinister dynamic we need to unravel. Why is the ZFO more important and influential than a million or vastly more Australians de facto? Alternatively did Albo honestly believe it was necessary to invite on an official visit an alleged war criminal, was this the only course? This is just as grave a question as the former, since the consequences were entirely predictable domestically and to Australia’s international reputation, integrity and standing, not mention our obligations to international human rights, the UN and sibling nations across the world. The latter is a slam dunk, how could Albo get it so wrong even to the extent, he could lose the trust of the people and next election, a more immediate threat to Labor? It doesn’t make sense. And why the ZFO over the Jewish Council of Australia who never wanted this – how dare we take sides on what ‘we’ presume and define to be Jewish, judging one over another.
Why do our leaders so readily take a knee to such a nasty, violent and corrupt nation (and recalcitrant, hateful partisan lobby group/s) that for two years have waged war crimes and genocide in plain sight? Would Menzies, Fadden or Curtin have remotely considered inviting Hitler, leader of the Nazi’s in 1941 while waging war in Europe – Not on their life! What about inviting Putin shortly after invading Crimea and later Ukraine – how is this any different?
Albo has said today we need to keep diplomatic channels and dialogue open, so we can question the controversial matters that concern us, have influence. But does he really believe rolling out the red carpet is the best approach, and if so why not Putin if we are applying the same moral and logical reasoning today? Netanyahu and Israel have been hurling insults with nauseating regularity compared to Putin, this is not how a friend behaves. At such times we should narrowing the diplomatic channels – by all means leave the door slightly ajar – but wide open as in ‘agape’ (ancient Greek derivation and meaning) – wide open, unconditional, red carpet, pretend best friends is darn right F@#@# absurd, insulting. What possessed Albo down this tragic-comic course? And look at the division, mistrust and suffering this has caused so many Australians across all diaspora, ethnic and cultural groups – the multicultural backbone of Australia.
Look at what Minns has done, setting his hounds on all of us! worshipping the ground Herzog walks on and the brolly above his head. We are dealing with extremely poor judgement, unsound international diplomacy, a misstep of enormous magnitude – I cannot underestimate this and how this will be seen in the history books of tomorrow. Unless of course those who write them are in the pay of Zionist or Labor Party faithful, loyalists and apologetics. But they won’t be the only narratives, and consequences will now follow as they have begun. The history books are no longer the privilege of the victor and powerful, though our billionaires and corporations of today are a serious threat to our survival.
I lay this all out here because it troubles me. If I can see this from my tiny little bench in the Blue Mountains, how come Albo can’t see it with all his minsters, advisers and ASIO? I know why Minns doesn’t get any of this because he is buffoon of the ridiculous and ignorant not amusing kind, and he is a motor mouth, seeker of populism and bully. But Albo, is he and his advisers so innocent like a child that his singular course and ideology would blunder so far away from the mindful path we should have taken. This is why I have referred to him as a gentle hound. Now I ask, faithful to whom? Whatever happened to our autonomy, our sovereignty, or just plain reason, morality and sanity?
‘Fear not the orange tiger* leaping in
the crowd, the hunter’s sickle sceptre sway,
the gentle hound that barks and wags its tail’.
And now Albo continues to roll out the red carpet and today brings him to Parliament House – Can you imagine Hitler being in Parliament House in 1941 or Putin today – God forbid Trump will be next, but the genocide… we brush aside for excuses of sharing grief in Bondi… My blood runs cold in disbelief. And the fall out and personal injuries on Monday in the Sydney CBD due to Minns’ brutal thugs!
Herzog was never welcome here in Australia, it was a lie, we were deceived and I choose to put the record fair and square – Leave and never come back.
Food for thought surely?
You have definitely given food for thought, Jon.
Blatant porkies are now elevated to ‘diplomacy’/’in the national interest’, which need to be called out, every time.
The MSM is captive so it is up to the independents to maintain the rage.
The peeps are being played for duffers and it has to stop…
Don’t stop keeping It in the open, Jon (nod to ‘Gang of Youths’).
@ Jon Chesterson (6:57pm): An excellent analysis!!
Uhm ….. My assertion is that SLO-MO ALBO was privately prodded by a member of the ZFA, and the PM danced to the tune of his puppet-master.
NSW Premier Chris Minus unleashed the Police under the Special events legislation which prevents victims of police brutality from claiming damages from either the police or the government.
So one lady was reported in SMH as suffering a back broken in four (4) places because of police violence the like of which we have not seen since the anti-Vietnam riots of the 60s and 70s. Who pays for this lady’s medical bills??
I agree with the rest of your later comment. Thank you.
Jon Chesterton, again, thanks for this work.
Briefly, NEC often provides interesting info and the spotlighting of actual problems.
That poor woman. I won’t assume she was elderly but we all saw the footage from multiple angles and phones in the crowd how the police manhandled the elderly, the young and people from all cultures and religions – our multicultural society, that Albanese keeps banging on about. The young one pinned down prone and older guy in white shirt grabbed and repeatedly punched like punched bags by police out of control – elderly women grabbed and marched off the street, not escorted or protected, no respect, no dignity, no sense of public service, duty, safety or protection; just arrogant demeaning military punitive, vengeful thuggery, just like the book of Israel in Palestine (and once upon a time in Jericho?) –

This is the canvas Minns has nailed up on the wall – a war on the general public, the people of NSW in the shadow of Albanese, Herzog, lesser known Maimon (ambassador of Israel) and the ZFA Zionist lobby – Quite literally ‘Israel in Australia’ the ambassador’s FB-website slogan with 31,000 followers –

This is what we are up against. Minns posing with the three of them in front of the Israeli, Australian and Aboriginal NATIONAL flags, for the public limelight and spectacle. Since when did a State premier dictate Australia’s international foreign and national domestic policy! What do other premiers have to say or Federal Parliament for that matter, we know what Australians have said!

And once again where are the mainstream media with their political analysis – The ABC and SBS dribbling the ball in the opposite net?
We are shaking hands with Zion, the raw arms of Zionism and Minns is the puppet, the pretender usurping Albanese’s throne. This is rabid symbolism beyond his role as Premier flirting with, championing, worshipping the genociders, leading the way for Albanese.
Time and time again the people of NSW have said no and the people in all capital cities of Australia have said no to Albanese.
This is our stage and it pleases not the people.
Ghosts of Albanese https://theaimn.net/ghosts-of-albanese/
