Republicans tell Trump, “Destroy US economy, please destroy it”

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll finds 77% of Republican voters support Trump’s criminal war on Iran. Every one of them driving a car is now paying an extra buck per gallon for gas. That price will continue moving one way… up.

But the war they support will create much more economic chaos than gas prices. Unless ended soon on Iran’s sensible terms, it will raise the price of everything these Republican deadenders buy, pushing the US into recession along with the entire world. Maybe even Depression.

Why most Republicans support this madness will forever remain mystery. Are they gobbling up Trump’s deranged propaganda Iran was within a couple of weeks of nuking the homeland? Are they simply following any policy, no matter how senseless and self-destructive, cult leader Trump conducts? Do they love that Trump is slaughtering the ‘other’ in this case Shi’ite infidels in the hated country of Iran? Do they view the war as 47 yearlong retribution for Iran taking 66 US embassy hostages for 444 days? Are they so stupid they cannot connect Trump’s failed war to their looming economic destruction? Are they seeking End Times from the Middle East blowing up, raising them to heaven? Are they Israel Firsters supporting Israel’s master plan to wipe up Iran, its last hegemonic rival in the region?

Maybe all of the above.

And Democratic voters? Alas, they are not perfect. A whopping 6% also support the war. Maybe that 6% voting war support gave the wrong answer on party affiliation.

  1. Trump and Netanyahu are threatening to blow-up Iran’s power infrastructure thus impacting on the provision of electricity, water supply, sewerage etc : a direct attack on the civilian population of Iran, the very people who thought that Trump was their saviour – tricked again!

  2. Under-educated Shithead Animals, the USA, modern day SAVAGES AND CEMENTSKULLED TRUMPITES, are getting to be beneath contempt. Raised on superstitious filthy fantasy, from religion to Superman and John Wayne, they so often extrude supremacist and righteous fictionalities. Poxites!

  3. Are they gobbling up Trump’s deranged propaganda Iran was within a couple of weeks of nuking the homeland?

The USA is not the only place where the public is being subjected to deranged propaganda.

These are the headlines on the ABC website’s “Just In” ticker tape at time of writing:
“Iran threatens to ‘completely close’ Hormuz Strait over Trump threat”
“Reopening Strait of Hormuz ‘essential’, Trump and Starmer agree in call”
“Iran launches missiles toward Israel, occupied West Bank”
“US ambassador to UN suggests Iran’s power plants are valid military targets”
    “War’s death toll rises”
“Macron warns of ‘risk of uncontrollable escalation’”
“Israeli settlers accused of torching West Bank homes”
“Trump ‘will take whatever steps it takes’ to achieve goals in war, US Treasury chief says”

In the first four of those news points, Iran is framed as the problem here, the next two neutral, and the last pro-US. Note how the second last is framed as accusations against Israel, is that consistent with how segments on Iran, or Hamas are framed – merely accusations?

In fairness the subtext to “Wars death toll rises” correctly labelled it as the US-Israel war, but the subtexts for the others were in keeping with the headline and whatever bias it had.

In my view, The Guardian is almost as bad as the ABC in that many, if not a majority, of headlines paint Iran as the problem and don’t sheet responsibility with the USA and Israel.

Yesterday, I switched on ABC news radio twice, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. The two broadcasts were interviews of a US official, in one, and a former US admiral in the other telling the audience that Australia should send warships to the Straits of Hormuz to support the USA. The interviewer did not challenge this in any way, nor challenge any of the, imo, untruths and distortions the US speakers gave.

I can imagine how bad the NewsCorp outlets are, but our ABC is a propaganda tool for Western imperialism – that is beyond ‘deeply concerning’.

  4. Thommo, nice work.

Just to add to your “…our ABC is a propaganda tool for Western imperialism…”, this from the Guardian today.
Almost half of Australians think foreign military will attack within five years, ANU study suggests

Why on earth would almost half of us think that we are in danger of attack?
It’s because our news media fails at their job.

Either they think China is a threat because that’s what they keep reporting, or half of us are smart enough to see that our alliance with the US will prompt an attack.

It does not matter which of these is the case, or if both contribute, that poll figure shows that the news media is failing us.

  5. Uhm ….. no doubt, energy generation is important. However, the sensible targets to quicken the end of hostilities is to attack the many water purification plants that dot the shore-line of the Straits of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf.

All the Gulf countries have a high dependency on this type of water supply system and as ”life requires water” so ”no available water, no human life”. QED.

Thanks to ABC journalist Matt Bevan for making this point in one of his recent programmes.

  6. @ Phil Pryor …. right on!

Of course the amjority ‘ordinary’ folk of USA are probably resigned to the fact that they are propagandized and predated upon by their govt & the oligarchs. Seems it’s heading that way fast in Oz.

    Today 26Mar2026.

Yesterday, no ABC News due to Industrial Action. In it’s place some gnome redirected ABC News channel to the BCC News channel. I gotta say that it absolutely crapped on the usual ABC News.

But then again, I remind myself that I only really check in with the ABC News to see what they’re feeding the ‘prols’.

I spend quite a deal of time hunting down more reliable news from online indy outlets. Oz MSM is deplorable. I wonder whether that’s why there’s Industrial Action at the ABC?
