From tan suits to total demolition: the evolving standards of outrage at Fox News

Back in 2014, America faced what Fox News declared the most shocking scandal of the Obama era: the President wore a tan suit.

For days, the network’s airwaves trembled under the weight of moral indignation. “A tan suit? During serious times?” gasped pundits, as though the very fabric of democracy had been dry-cleaned without permission. Viewers were assured this was the end of presidential dignity as we knew it.

Fast-forward to 2025. President Trump has just demolished the East Wing of the White House – literally. Bulldozers, dust, and a Trump-branded excavator parked on the South Lawn. When liberals expressed shock that part of the nation’s most historic building had been reduced to rubble, Fox News rolled its eyes.

“Liberals are waltzing themselves into peak derangement,” one host smirked, as footage played of the East Wing collapsing behind her.

Fox’s reaction to the actual demolition? Crickets. Not even a “breaking news” ticker. Apparently, architectural destruction now counts as “strong leadership.”

But a tan suit? That was a constitutional crisis.

The network’s outrage evolution has been something to behold. Once upon a time, they were scandalised by a president ordering Dijon mustard on a burger (“un-American,” they said). Today, a president could order a drone strike on the Lincoln Bedroom and Fox would call it “bold interior design.”

When Obama played golf, it was “neglecting his duties.” When Trump plays golf he would be praised for bringing jobs back to caddies.

And when Obama saluted a Marine while holding a coffee cup? “Disrespectful to the troops!” screamed the chyron. If Trump accidentally drove a golf cart through Arlington Cemetery, the same commentators would praise his “hands-on approach to remembrance.”

There’s no hypocrisy quite like the Fox variety – a network that once saw a suit as a scandal but now sees a wrecking ball as an act of patriotism.

At this rate, if Trump burns down the Capitol for “renovations,” Fox will just call it “restoring the people’s house.”

  1. There is a biblical comment about those who ” strain at gnats , but swallow camels ” . Rather apt here .

  2. I can almost see The Dumpster tearing down the White House to build a more tacky, horrific gold encrusted pimp palace and grander, in his eyes at least, Mar-a-Lago Washington. Which will be more suitable to him as he settles in for the long (until his mind totally collapses) run to rule the Peoples Democratic Republic of the USA.

I reckon we’re going to see an increase in TIA’s before he has a major stroke before this term is up for him.

  3. Two other worthwhile additions on Fox News, first Jen Senko’s doco ‘The Brainwashing of My Dad’, mid west architecture with radio and nudging RW MSM further right…to influence seniors especially.

The other is Media Matters article ’22 based on 3 part NYT series, ‘If you are in business with Fox News you are on the hook for its white nationalism’ (with Tanton Network inside and central).

  4. T-Rump and his flunkies are all over the place like mad men & woman swinging wildly with sticks and turds.

The deluded ‘liberal’ foundation of righteousness via property ownership is being blown to smithereens through extraction by fascist politics, corporations and billionaires all pumped by corporate mainstream media cynicism. But those dickheads won’t know what to do with it other than build castles in the air, monuments to their own self-importance and ongoing pursue obsessive brutal conflict.

  5. Hats off to Obama,he only did the suit number to piss all the fuckwits off…and it worked a treat.Pity about the death of the planet. No wonder we’re fucked.
