Nearly a decade has passed since I penned the thoughts that follow, and now I feel compelled to revisit them (with a few thoughtful tweaks and expansions) in pursuit of a deeper understanding of what has truly changed. Has our government evolved for the better or regressed into a state of decline? With the ascent of feminism and the rise of narcissism in our society, have we transformed into a more compassionate nation? No, I think not. Above all, my concern lies with the mechanisms of governance that shape our lives. The term ‘manipulated’ echoes throughout my reflections, underscoring a critical observation I wish to highlight. Join me in this exploration, and I invite your reflections and insights in the comments section below.

These are the days of two incomes, a massive decline in marriage, or at least the length of it, with more divorce, bigger houses, and empty hearts. And a proliferation of single-parent households.
In their misguided conviction that they possess the sole claim to righteousness, many churches subtly steer followers into the belief that love and morality are realms reserved exclusively for the faithful. They conveniently overlook their own shortcomings, allowing their inflated sense of self-importance to overshadow any acknowledgment of immorality. Moreover, there exists a troubling dynamic in which individuals of the cloth exploit vulnerable minors, weaving a web of manipulation that preys on innocence.
Happiness can be found in having things, but it can also be found in not having them.
In tandem with this troubling trend, our society finds itself captivated by a hollow yet compelling adoration of celebrity culture. The media, a masterful puppeteer, expertly weaves a shimmering illusion that persuades us to elevate those who are often void of virtue, genuine talent, or meaningful depth to a pedestal of significance. This misplaced reverence, fuelled by the dazzling allure of fame, staggering wealth, and formidable influence, casts a long shadow over true merit and character, as we become caught in a whirlwind of superficial accolades and fleeting glories.
We have become entangled in the relentless web of competitive living, caught in a race that strips away our joy and sense of community. In the hustle, the sound of genuine laughter has faded into the background, and the act of volunteering has become a distant memory. I can hardly recall the name of that friendly family across the street, a poignant reminder of our growing isolation. We often miss the crucial difference between simple manners – like saying “please” and “thank you” – and true civility, a more profound kindness that seems lost on our children.
We are lost in competitive living, caught in a race that strips away our joy and community spirit. In the hustle, the sound of genuine laughter has faded into the background, and the act of volunteering has become a distant memory.
Narcissism is rife, and men are particularly prone to it.
Remarkable strides have been made in the realm of medicine, with future breakthroughs poised to further augment these advances. Today, a wider array of medications is accessible for numerous ailments; yet, powerful pharmaceutical companies often dictate who receives these vital treatments and at what exorbitant cost.
The emergence of artificial intelligence is reshaping numerous sectors, including the healthcare landscape, where its impact is being felt profoundly.
A striking illustration of this rapid advancement was the development of the COVID-19 vaccine. Developed at an unprecedented pace worldwide, this medical marvel showcased international collaboration; yet, it was the wealthiest nations that reaped the most benefits from this groundbreaking achievement.
There remains a significant need for improvement in overall wellness, and it’s encouraging that mental illness is finally gaining the recognition it deserves. However, we continue to grapple with heartbreaking issues like domestic violence, where far too many women are manipulated, sometimes resulting in tragic outcomes. Despite substantial funding directed towards these challenges, we often find ourselves falling short in addressing the deep-rooted causes behind them.
Women are voicing their frustrations now more than ever, and current events have shed light on their struggles. Yet, we see that men still hold disproportionate power in many areas of society. This dynamic perpetuates a cycle in which women may feel confined by manipulations that aim to sustain a sense of dominance in various aspects of life.
While people are living longer, many are not experiencing true happiness, and rising mental health issues have become a pervasive concern in our communities. It feels as though we often speak without fully expressing ourselves, and genuine love and connection have become scarce. The intimacy of relationships can sometimes give way to a form of casualness that leaves many feelings unfulfilled, with women disproportionately affected by these dynamics.
Love is when there is an irresistible urge for the need of the affection of another, and the irresistibility is of its nature mutual.
We find ourselves in a moment of significant economic prosperity; however, it often feels overshadowed by a lack of genuine economic leadership, critical thinking, and meaningful connections. Despite incredible advancements in technology, there is a troubling tendency to prioritise financial gain over the potential for positive change.
Invariably, when I read about how successful people are. The measure is always the value of their assets. Why is this so?
As we explore new frontiers, from outer space to medical breakthroughs, we must also be mindful of the impacts we have on our environment and on our collective well-being. We must remain aware and discerning, resisting the pull of sensationalised narratives that seek to alarm us rather than inspire constructive dialogue and understanding.
We all incur a cost for the upkeep of our health. Why then should we not be liable for the price of a healthy planet?
Power is a malevolent possession when you are prepared to forgo your principles and your country’s well-being for the sake of it.
It’s heartbreaking to see how some individuals exploit our social behaviours, causing young people to be swayed by the alluring but harmful influence of debilitating drugs.
Moreover, the innocence of our leisure activities and sports has been tarnished by the troubling impact of money and substance abuse, affecting the essence of what we love.
In this challenging landscape, those who resort to deceit ensnare us with their falsehoods, leaving many feelings vulnerable and misled.
We must revive the respect for science that we once held in high regard. Embracing this appreciation will not only benefit our understanding of the world but also pave the way for progress and innovation. Finally, we must restore the respect for science that we once had.
America may be the most advanced technological nation on earth. However, its social progress on matters of great moral importance is still struggling to emerge from the dark ages when mysticism was rampant.
My thought for the Day
We often resist change, mistakenly believing we can make anything that provides security permanent. However, change is an intrinsic part of our existence.

Still resonates loudly today, John, and that’s an invitation that only an individual can accept for the better after making mistakes along the way.
The question as always is, will we admit it, make change for the better or ignore it, for as I have wryly observed people hate to admit they made a mistake let alone make amends to correct it.
The jury’s been out for a while.
Another potent reminder from the enemy within….

Yes, we are meant to accept these arguments as well….no wonder Aukus is flourishing

A brilliant collection of thoughts conceived in yester-year but still relevant today. Permit me to take issue on one matter as per the quote:
“..A striking illustration of this rapid advancement was the development of the COVID-19 vaccine. Developed at an unprecedented pace worldwide, this medical marvel showcased international collaboration;…”
My assessment of the Covid phenomenon is that the injectable biologic product marketed as a vaccine was developed as a result of opportunistic charlatans, devoid of both hubris and scientific acuity being given the reigns of authority by an inept and self seeking egotist who forgot that his responsibility was to ensure that “safe and effective” was just that. The results and effects of this perfidy continue world wide today. The “international collaboration” was more about denying human rights and enforcing punitive measures of population control by a nihilistic minority focussed on their nefarious wealth creation schemes.
You may differ with my opinion but that is OK with me.
Mediocrates I’m very sympathetic to the point of view you have expressed.
Even the ‘we’s cannot erase your thought behind the heading.
As for the other thought tell it to jelly fish or the church?
Thankfully there are a myriad of reasons to resist change and to accept change(https://www.instagram.com/reel/C_as7VGgDY9/)
