Now it’s only a few days until Trump takes the reigns of the presidency…
Yes, yes I know it’s normally spelled “reins” but surely one of his first acts will be to announce his emperoracy because how else do you build an empire without having an emperor in charge. Or maybe he’ll call it a kingdom which has a king. Leaving it a country won’t emphasise how far America has come in terms of greatness in the few hours that he’s taken over. And no, while empires have emperors and kingdoms have kings, that’s not what a country has and it’s a poor joke and shame on you!
After all, he hasn’t even taken office yet and already Haitians have stopped eating people’s pets, inflation is no longer a problem, nobody is struggling with bills and we’ve moved on to the acquisition of Greenland, the Panama Canal, Canada and whatever else takes his fancy.
Trump is on record as saying that the US needs Greenland and the Panama Canal for America’s “economic security” and he wouldn’t rule out the use of force to achieve his aim. This is sort of interesting because jails are full of people who felt that they needed things that didn’t belong to them for their “economic security” and used force or intimidation to get it. Still, what can you expect when you have a fellow felon in charge.
Of course, his decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico, the Gulf of America should be his first priority, although it may take a while before the rest of the world feels the need to adopt a new place name for something just because Trump says so. This could be another reason for the POTUS to take over countries. He needs to ensure that place names are correct and who better to decide what’s correct and impose his will on everyone than the leader of the free world.
This is one area where Peter Dutton is on a winner. His recent announcement about changing Indigenous place names back to what they were originally called before we changed what they were originally called is certainly something I’ll be thinking about when I go into the ballot box on April 12th which is the tip for the election. I’ll seem very impressive if I’m right and you’ll all forget it if I’m not because that’s the way political commentary works. After all, if we held people to their predictions and asked why they were wrong, then “Insiders” might be a lot more interesting, but nobody would want to be a panelist.
A lot of people are convinced that Dutton is set to be Prime Minister after the next election owing to the fact that Labor have done such a terrible job. We know that Labor have done a terrible job because the media keep telling us this. Unemployment has been consistently lower than the RBA want it to be so that they can cut interest rates. Inflation has come down from when they were elected and now headline inflation is within the RBA’s desired range which has them searching for another figure to use when deciding not to cut rates. And Labor have had two budget surpluses and, while a third one isn’t expected, there’s no reason not to expect a surprise. Of course, the Coalition are criticising Labor because the Government haven’t done enough to help while simultaneously attacking them for spending too much, even though much of the spending has been on things that have lowered costs for people.
I read recently on the front page of the Liberal propaganda newsletter – otherwise known as “The Herald-Sun” – that since Labor won office the mortgage interest bill has tripled, “with every household paying ten of thousands of dollars more”. Now it may seem like I’m being pedantic here if you’re one of the many with a mortgage, but it’s not EVERY household that’s paying that much more. For a start, some households don’t have a mortgage and, secondly, many of those with a mortgage took it out years ago and won’t have paid the “$41,000” more in additional interest that the article suggest that all households have had to pay.
Now all of this doesn’t mean that there aren’t areas where the progressive side of politics doesn’t need to take a good hard look at itself, and I don’t mean that Albo should take more selfies. Both the Democrats in the US and Labor in Australia need to think about why they’re failing to connect when the opposition are so easy to find fault with.
In Australia, there is almost nothing being put forward by the Opposition that should be resonating with people. Sure, blame immigration for everything because that worked well for President Musk, but it surely won’t be as effective here where just about everyone has one immigrant in their extended family. And the promise to bring energy prices down some time in ten years time after causing them to go up so that we can build a few nuclear plants isn’t something that I imagine people feeling better about their bills for the next year. However, it would have been easy to imagine that Trump 2.0 was unelectable and look what happened there.
Yes, it’s easy to blame the media. Particularly when it seems fine when Dutton accuses journalists of having “an agenda” when they ask an inconvenient question, but Albanese “snaps” at reporters and is “frustrated” and “angry”.
But the point remains about the progressive side of politics. Maybe the answer is that they need to be more progressive and to actually ask people what the word “woke” actually means.

Australians are paying more out, usually to conservative donors in the mild corruption and patron system, thus allowing conservatives to blame others, usually ALP and Greens. It is sick, for the corporate turds who are guaranteed to fleece us will never have a conscience, lower the rigged insider benefits, share deals, bonuses and expenses rewards, oh no. Conservatives want it all, greed driven and excuses provided.
Can’t stop grinning.
Ah, Rossleigh. I heard that your NY resolution was to be more erudite and …. Happy New Year.
There was a president once who quite proudly proclaimed as he rode into battle
“I am aMerkin”
Everyone who is anyone knew exactly what he meant; that he was going to be in front of his country wherever it went, regardless of the dress-code. I would hope that the incoming dealer in chief is just as much aMerkin as his prdecessor, and will do and be the same for his nation.
It is the lot of a merkin to hide what is beneath, and there are many fruntbums who hide behind their aMerkinism.
Just to clarify.
I am certain that derSpud is set to be PM after the next election, be that on April 12, ar Mayday, or whenever. There are just a couple of things in his way to an unopposed succession.
Albo has the same plan, so that is going to a bit like the line in Dire Straits’ Industrial Disease “Two men say they’re PM, one of them must be wrong.”
I have the same ambition myself. I’m sure that I could do a better job than just about anyone in Parliament except for maybe Mr Pocock and some of the Teals. The two things in my way are A) I am not standing for election, and even if I was and my whole electorate voted for me, I would still be a party of ONE, so I would probably not get to sit in the big chair. Bugger.
Spuddley has the same problem. He might scrape his arse over his razor thin margin again, but even with x-man batting for him he will be reliant on enough of his sock-puppets getting re-elected too. The AEC has helped, but it’s not a lay down misère even if the sucker is nuclear.
If only the current pm had a pair. And some bottle. And was more interested in Australia than he is in his upcoming nuptials.
It will be an entertaining run up to voting day.
Mmmm…… one wonders if the purchase of Greenland and it’s rare earth minerals has anything to do with the ear of Trump that President Musk has been using of late?
emperoracy
I think the word is “imperium”.
Both the Democrats in the US and Labor in Australia need to think about why they’re failing to connect when the opposition are so easy to find fault with.
Well, you can start with both MSM and much of social media being full of misinformation, disinformation, and downright lies about actual economic conditions and various party and individual platforms and policies …
Well, Potty Boy Dutton is trailing as preferred PM, so I hope that he loses his seat of Dickson as well as not becoming PM. Labor is not being given a fair go.
Apparently Trump has confused ‘gulf’ with ‘golf’, hence his confusion and need to rename geographical points; maybe he thinks ‘bight’ should be ‘bitcoin’ in honour of his Tech Bros and donors?
Yes, spell check argued with me several times that there was no such word as “emporacy” but I’m sure that it’s what Trump will announce and if he announces his imperium, I shall indeed be shocked. On the other hand, if he announces his covfefe, we shall at last know what it means!!
are prophetic, Rossleigh? Giving trump a ‘g’ spot this could give him a lady in black job at the emporacy?
Trumpty Dumpty has a history of building walls because he doesn’t like countries and has been found to have paid bribes to those that possess them so that he can’t be seen to be obsessed about using and abusing them.
Last time he attempted wall building, he finished too early as is his wont, and had a great fall. All his men have managed to put him together again and egged him on.
Now he aspires to instead own all the countries and control all their output and their bounties. But fails to recognize that none of the countries actually like him because he emerged from a family of dysfuntional countries. Nevertheless he remains determined to bite the hair of the dog assigned by his Pavlovian brain. And don’t all the men putting things together just love a Pavlovian brain.
That Trumpty Dumpty has surrounded himself with the free world’s leading hair biters of Pavlovian inclination, it would seem that upon his next fall, that the men that put things together might just opt for one of the other leading hair biters. That is if, and only if, their home country in its isolation remains productive.
“finished too early as is his wont…”
Ah, Clakka, one of your best!
” …* but I’m sure that it’s what Trump will announce* … ”
Nah, “emperorocracy” has too many syllables for his wormhole-ridden brain. May be amusing to hear his attempts, but.
