Inflation has recently reared its ugly head again and it’s all the fault of Labor’s spending. The general consensus amongst economists and most other political parties is that Labor needs to rein in their spending and all will be well…
Of course, a recent moment when Labor DID do exactly that was when they cut the Energy Bill Relief Fund at the end of last year which led to an increase in the price of energy but you can’t let events get in the way of what we all know is a good theory.
Speaking of One Nation… Or, to call them by their correct title Pauline Hanson’s One Nation, just so there’s no mistaking it for the One Nation Party that expelled Pauline in 2002. I’m not sure how the constitution works in the One Nation Party that has Pauline’s name in front of it, but I suspect there’s a clause somewhere that says that if she’s expelled, they’ll have to change their name to the Party That Used To Be Pauline’s… or a clause somewhere that says that they can’t change the name unless she agrees to it… or a clause somewhere that says that nobody gets to vote on anything unless it’s who gets to thank Pauline for standing up for Australia…
I’m pretty sure though that Pauline’s Pity Party do have the solution to inflation. If they were elected there’d be so much chaos that we’d have a recession and that’s usually what brings inflation down. At the very least we’d have lots of people leaving the country which would bring down house prices… Not just immigrants but anyone who didn’t like the way that Pauline was making Australia grate again. Personally I find her pronunciation of the word “people” particularly grating.
Ah well, it’s easy to mock Pauline but she’s now someone that we need to take seriously because – according to the opinion polls and a few guys on social media – she’s really the Opposition…
Now, I don’t like to be pedantic… All right, sometimes I love to be pedantic. Ok, ok, you’ve made your point, but who was pedantic there, eh?
Anyway, to quote from the official Parliament of Australia website:
The Opposition is the party or group which has the greatest number of non-government Members in the House of Representatives. It is organised as a body with the officially recognised function of opposing the Government. The party (or sometimes coalition of parties) is recognised as the ‘alternative Government’—that is, the body which would form the Government, with its leader as Prime Minister, if the existing Government were to lose the confidence of the House or the people. The concept of ‘alternative Government’ is very relevant in Australia. Every Opposition can realistically hope, eventually, to form government, and every Government knows that, sooner or later, it is likely to again be in opposition.
The Opposition is an important component in the structure of the House and is considered to be essential for the proper working of democratic government and the parliamentary process in the Westminster system.
See it’s actually an official title given with an official definition, just like the Government is the party who has the “confidence of the House”. I can’t simply declare I’m the government because a lot of people have said that they like me more than Albanese and they’d rather me as PM. I can’t even say this if I’ve formed a party and found that just about everyone loves me and will vote for me, because – until an election gives me seats in the House Of Representatives – I’m just a popular guy, not someone who can pass and/or repeal existing laws.
A lot of the commentary is the equivalent of saying that Sussan Ley isn’t the Liberal leader because, as soon as a spill is launched it’ll be someone else… probably Angus, maybe Andrew, maybe even Dan… and if you ask him, Timmy from Goldstein will sing a couple of verses of “What About Me”, with a strong vibrato when he sings the line about it not being fair… Until the vote, she’s still the leader and she can shuffle deckchairs and tell the Nationals that they can’t sit with them any more… even at recess!
And, of course, I’m yet to hear anyone mention that the most recent opinion poll had the Coalition that isn’t one on 19% and PHON on 26% which adds up to 45% which means that even if they all got together they still don’t make 50%.
But, here’s the interesting bit…
It’s not really in the interest of either the Liberals or the Nationals to get together with One Nation and swap preferences because it increases One Nation’s chance of getting lower House seats and actually becoming the Opposition.
Note that I just said increases their chances, not that it was likely to happen. The most dangerous scenario for the parties who used to be a Coalition is a contest where a One Nation candidate does well enough to knock the Liberal/National candidate out of the count, which ironically may help Labor, the Greens or an Indepent because you’d have some people who voted for the Liberal/National candidate who wouldn’t vote for Pauline under any circumstances and their preferences might help someone limp over the line in a seat which has always been safe for the Coalition.
If this were to happen, you can be sure that someone will complain that it’s because of the Dominion computers and refuse to accept that we don’t use them to count the votes in this country…
Like I said, never let the facts get in the way of a good conspiracy!
hahahahahahahaha
I love it when Pauline starts talking about being PM, and all the stuff she’ll do. Happens in mid-election cycle every tie, and then the votes are in and they gain no seats in the Reps.
It’s a distraction for us, kind of like the cartoons at the cinema before the main feature starts (do they still do that?)
So the representative of the ”do nothing” NOtional$ has jumped parties to get a free lunch with the Only Nutters and Poorlein Handjob. I wonder what James Ashby thinks about this rival for his plans to become Prim Monster??
It really is a matter of ”any port in a storm” for Beetrooter. I am advised that the Pre-selection Committee of the NOtional$ have withdrawn his automatic election pre-selection on the basis that he has done little./nothing for the electorate in any form what-so-ever. Indeed, he even seduced a Canberra planter-box rather than a local Tamworth Peel Street model.
Well, taking 13 years TO NOT REPLACE the funding for the Tenterfield CBD By Pass is a little lax, even the very slow yokels can recognise the passing of that number of seasons, after his reported chortling when Toxic RAbbott slashed that funding from the 2013 allocation by the Gillard LABOR government. Gotta luv the commitment of RAbbott to the best interests of preventing the accident waiting to happen in the Tenterfield CBD.
Beetrooter is still searching for relevance beyond the planter-box, his taste for (several) drinks really amounts to alcoholism while his self-service is legendary as is his refusal to support local efforts by voters to drag this neglected electorate out of the 20th century by returning the too many services both NSW and feral COALition misgovernments have removed.
PH once, pleasingly, sought an ‘explain’ation but, to her credit, she realised she didn’t want any.
Since then she and her party have avoiding any semblance of that concept.
I normally love idiots in politics, like the rabbott and his joey, Giles in the NT, trump but you have to draw the line somewhere???
Be very careful with how you consider One Nation, they are not what they seem.
From their website they make their big pitch which is all about Immigration : One Nation want to Deport 75,000 illegal migrants because Australia’s immigration laws must be enforced, not ignored. Visa overstayers, illegal workers, and unlawful non-residents undermine national security, drive down wages, and take advantage of public services meant for Australians.
This is the One Nation ICE policy that they are so supportive of in the US. But remember, when Pauline gets her Border Force thugs out on our steets, do we actually have any rights ? If you think being born in Australia protects you (as it would being born in the US) think again.
Prior to 1986 a child born in Australia automatically acquired citizenship, but, as we have no Bill of Rights in this country and no constitutional guarantee of citizenship from birth that entitlement can and was withdrawn by an act of our parliament.
Citizenship by birth does not apply automatically to all children born in Australia. Since August 20, 1986, a child born in Australia is only an automatic citizen if at least one parent is an Australian citizen or permanent resident at the time of birth, or if the child lives in Australia for the first 10 years of life.
In the United States, citizenship by birth is guaranteed to individuals born on U.S. soil or to U.S. citizen parents, as established by the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution.
When masked Border Force agents ask to see your papers, a driving licence will not be sufficient, neither will a Medicare Card or library ticket – you will need to carry a certificate of citizenship as well as your birth certificate.
Life with One Nation holding the balance of power in the senate will be what Pauline or Gina Rinehart say it is – be careful Australia because they tell porkies on a wholesale basis.
