Let’s break down some of the shocking incidents that highlight just how extreme they truly are.
First, consider their brazen assaults on populated areas. In one infamous operation, ANTIFA forces stormed beaches under heavy fire, gunning down anyone who stood in their way. Thousands were mowed down in a hail of bullets, with ANTIFA operatives showing no mercy as they advanced. Reports from the scene described waves of attackers charging forward, firing relentlessly at defenders who were simply trying to hold their ground. This wasn’t some isolated skirmish – it was a coordinated attack that left bodies strewn across the sand, a stark reminder of ANTIFA’s willingness to use lethal force to achieve their goals.

ANTIFA didn’t hesitate to burst into civilian residences, kicking down doors and ransacking rooms in search of their targets. Yes, ANTIFA was dangerous – extremely so, to fascists. They fired at Nazi soldiers, invaded Gestapo hideouts, and abducted war criminals to bring them to justice. Trump’s rhetoric echoes the very warnings the Nazis used against the Allies: calling them terrorists to justify their own regime. History has a funny way of repeating itself, doesn’t it? Perhaps it’s time to remember who the real heroes – and villains – were.

The circus that passes for politics in America continues to deliver daily master classes in the theatre of the absurd; at the helm, the absurdist de la absurdist Monsieur Trump, in thrall, the troupe of lackeys; Bondi, Noem, Leavitt, Vance, Rubio, Hegseth, Kennedy, Lutnick, McMahon and others too many to mention.
The audience is divided, initial support seemed to favour this style of theatrics but enthusiasm for its repetitive manner of punching down on the soft targets has waned considerably. Like all forms of experimental theatre, it will have its day in the sun until it eventually gutters and fades away.

Well done Michael, your article does a great job of showing how the US used to oppose fascism, but now has a fascist government proscribing a group that opposes fascism as terrorists.
It also raises some other issues with proscribing organizations as terrorists.
For one, it is a political act. It is one group taking away the human, legal and judicial rights of another group. When you consider that there are always existing laws covering murder, torture, bombing, etc. then it comes down to a clash of ideologies, or political expediency. Trump doesn’t want people interfering or criticising his authoritarian rule and so proscribes them as terrorists.
Starmer proscribing Palestine Action, then using his new terrorist laws to silence and arrest little old grannies holding signs saying ‘I support Palestine Action’, is one such example, where it is clearly aimed at suppressing dissent against UK complicity in a depraved genocide. The Turkic group the US had no problem with when they were slaughtering people in Chinese railway stations, but proscribed as terrorists when they joined ISIS in Syria, only to unproscribe them when they were bringing down Assad.
Furthermore, your article illustrates very well how proscribing a group as terrorists can be used to demonize a group, with all the consequenses that brings. By labelling Hamas as a terrorist group but not the state of Israel, makes it look like Israel is the victim and Hamas the perpetrator; it strips Palestinians of their voice, people unfamiliar with the history of Palestine, are likely to dismiss, ignore or downplay anything they say because they think they’re all terrorists.
This argument will of course raise the issue of Oct 7th in the mind of many. Oct 7th was a crime against humanity committed, not just by Hamas, but by other Palestinians as well, and by the government of Israel itself through its issuing of the Hannibal directive.
Palestinians have the right, under International law, to resist, including armed resistance, the illegal occupation of their lands by Israel.

We have a record of abusing human rights.
From White Australia to spying on allies to offshore detention, we’ve been in the thick of it.
Democracy and the international rule of law?
Did we protest when the Brits deposed the elected government of Iran and installed the Shah?
When the US arranged military coups by the dozen throughout Central and South America?
We have been complicit in every crime.
We might not have participated in every crime, but we benefited from every crime.
Is it any wonder that the Global South is moving as quickly as possible, to a point as far as possible from the West?
Not only do we lie to them, we can’t even tell the truth to ourselves!
So while it’s great to see a torrent of criticism of Trumpish folly we must recognise that we have a responsibility here.

Two things: Australia has just proscribed Iran’s Islamic Republic Guard as a terrorist organization. I don’t propose to defend the IRG any way shape or form, but on what evidence was it proscribed as a terrorist organization?
The ASIO head said we have evidence and Albanese told us they have evidence – that’s it, nothing else. The ASIO head also said once a state actor had conducted spying or the like, the media went wild accusing Russia (given their anti-China bent I thought he was referring to China) turned out to be India. Burgess allowed erroneous speculation to abound for months before revealing that it was India. I’d be surprised if ASIO wasn’t kept in the loop about the caravan with explosives but no detonators, yet they, the NSW police, Labor and the AFP said nothing about it being a hoax until well after laws oppressing protest marches were passed. Dan Duggan, Julian Assange, five eyes there are a number of instances when ASIO’s closeness to US and UK intelligence (and we know how they feel about Iran) raises questions about ASIO bias.
What I’m getting at is that we shouldn’t be accepting the head of ASIO’s word for it. By expelling the embassy we will likely never get to know the truth about the ADASS and the Sydney kitchen fire-bombings as they won’t be tested in court. But, when the US and Israel attack Iran again, the government will be tossing around “terrorist organization” like lettuce in a salad bowl.
Secondly, there is an article in Consortium News about UK involvement in the Indonesian genocide. Australia and the US were complicit in that shocking episode. The UK and the US, in particular, but the West in general have involvements in genocides as long as your arm, and Australia is still going with its genocide.
