The Trumpet of Patriots Blows a Sour Note in Federal Election Debacle

In a federal election finale that could double as a slapstick comedy, Clive Palmer’s Trumpet of Patriots managed to hit every wrong note, failing to secure a single seat in Parliament yesterday. The party, with its Trump-inspired name and bombastic rhetoric, promised to “make Australia great” by shaking up the so-called “uni-party” of Labor and the Coalition. Instead, they delivered a performance so off-key it left the electorate cringing.

For the past week, the Trumpet of Patriots spammed people with a relentless barrage of text messages, turning phone inboxes into a buzzing beehive of annoyance. Voters didn’t just ignore the messages – they seemed to take them as a personal challenge to vote for anyone else. The party’s leader, Suellen Wrightson, who once allegedly boasted of a political revolution, locked her X account faster than you can say “stop blowing” after the results rolled in. Clearly, she wasn’t ready to face the music – or the memes.

Palmer, no stranger to political stunts, poured millions into this campaign, hoping to make a splash. But the Trumpet of Patriots’ efforts were more of a belly flop. Their how-to-vote cards allegedly sparked outrage among their own candidates, some of whom publicly disavowed the party’s tactics as “a complete farce.” Then there were the YouTube ads – grainy, poorly edited clips that looked like they were shot on a flip phone in someone’s basement. One ad, apparently featuring a candidate awkwardly waving a trumpet while shouting about “freedom” was said to be cringeworthy. It’s safe to say their digital strategy was less viral sensation and more viral infection.

The irony is almost poetic: a party named after a trumpet, silenced by the electorate’s collective eye-roll. They marched onto the political battlefield with a full brass band, only to trip over their own tuba and land flat on their face. Perhaps Clive should take a page from a quieter playbook next time – maybe a kazoo or a triangle? At least those would be less annoying and just as effective at getting zero seats!

  1. What is the difference between Clive Palmer and a huge brown elephant log? Well? This sicko filtho political pox and pestilence lump remains Un-Australian, insanely unbalanced in his loudness, and, not fit to be considered, even for a village requiring an idiot.

  2. LABOR LANDSLIDE WALLOPED THE COALition WANNABES!!
    .
88 SEATS TO LABOR; COALition 40 (too many); GREENS ALMOST WIPED OUT; FRWNJs 0.
    .
BOOFHEAD DUDDO LOST ON A 10% SWING AGAINST TO ALI FRANCE (LABOR).
    .
ALI FRANCE first candidate to topple a Feral Leader of the Opposition out of their seat and out of Parliament.
    .
I hope the misogynists in the LABOR CAUCUS treat her as an asset rather than an embarrassment as happened when Maxine McKew rolled Little johnnie Howard out of Benelong in the 2007 LABOR election victory.
    .
Like McKew France is an experienced journalist and could easily present LABOR communications with more skill than seen since 2007.

  3. The TRUTH is that Albanese’s (and the ALP’s) resounding win at yesterday’s federal election wasn’t a surprise – it was INEVITABLE!

Nobody, with an IQ reaching into double digits with any level of compassion or foresight, are at all surprised at the end-result of the federal election! After all, WHO in their right mind would want our nation (mis)led and (mis)managed by a hateful, racist, condescending megalomaniacal political psychopath like Peter Dutton?

Dutton will be best known for what he FAILED to achieve, his vindictiveness, his notorious total lack of compassion and the manner in which he continually, consistently, inhumanely and cowardly attacks the poorest, most vulnerable people in our nation! Australians are widely known to have a compassionate concern for those who are less fortunate; we have a long, admirable history of welcoming prospective migrants (from all over the world) into our “lucky country” and we are internationally known as hospitable and willing to give those people, individuals or groups, who have fewer advantages, opportunities, or resources compared to others, a helping hand up the ladder to success.

History has shown that power-obsessed, inhumane and dangerously undemocratic LNP stalwarts like Howard, Abbott, Morrison and Dutton did NOT share those values nor have the compassion, foresight, tolerance or humanity to implement them. As a result, foresightful egalitarian Australians can no longer connect with the rusted-on misogynists, condescending elitist and cold-blooded racist white supremacists in the LNP/Murdoch/IPA Alliance who only focus on further enriching and empowering the wealthiest, most powerful elitists in the country! The LNP/Murdoch/IPA Alliance not only choose to continue to inhumanely target and denigrate the poorest, least fortunate citizens in our communities but cruelly blame them for all of the woes, dysfunction, racial division, hate and inegalitarian inequality that the Alliance have helped generate and foster!

The results of yesterday’s election PROVED – without any doubt – that the HUGE majority of Australians have grown tired of the divisive, vindictive kind of politics that the LNP represent; are sick to the back teeth of the continual venomous attacks against our most vulnerable citizens; are completely disillusioned by the LNP’s constant lies and broken promises and thoroughly disgusted by the LNP’s stubborn adherence to racial division and inherent misogyny!

Unless the LNP wake up, grow up and have the insight and maturity to recognise their LONG laundry list of failings: their appalling medieval level of alpha male misogyny, their racist right-wing bias and condescending, inhumane contempt for those who are less fortunate and the LNP’s escalating level of self-serving entitlement and born-to-rule arrogance, it is highly unlikely that the LNP/Murdoch/IPA Alliance will ever rise to autocratic power again! The huge majority of Australians want OUR nation to be governed by a political government that truly represents the compassionate, foresightful, democratic, welcoming and egalitarian nature of Australians and, based on history, the LNP HAS NEVER and, indeed, WILL NEVER be a government that truly represents that agenda!

Yes, I repeat, Dutton’s stratospheric fall in yesterday’s federal election, was no surprise – it was INEVITABLE!

  4. The Kathryn Journal correctly reports that Dutton failed, again, in finality, thus keeping up a record of brainless failure against all sense. Final humiliation, and perhaps clarity, too late for hardened conservative fantasisers..,Angus anyone? Well done? How about a LLLEEEYYY on stale bread. No? And, Barnaby Uppem-Drinkon must go. (down the pub? Again?)

  5. It took the people in Dutton’s electorate over 20 years to oust him, but finally they learned.

  6. The replies above echo my sentiments to a T, on both counts. These neanderthals still think their behaviour still works in modern Australia, hard to imagine it took so long. The landslide win for Labor and Anthony Albenese speaks volumes, as the tribal chief says, “The Tribe has Spoken”

  7. The Labor and voter steamroller did a good a good job of turning Der Spud into mashed potato.

  8. Kathryn,

As usual a great post. Spot on in every regard.

Lets hope the LNP just disappear ……………. not likely with the money and corporations backing them, but.

Lets hope the Labor party grow a spine this term and do what needs to be done and said …………. say what needs to be said about the genocide, shut the Israel lobby up, get whistleblower protection in place, get a proper functioning NACC, disappear the AUKUS fiasco, cut the ties with the greatest terrorist country on the planet, stop telling us they will keep “us safe” [from who the hell!], +++++

  9. Palmer apparently spent $60 million on this election, and after the dismal response from the voting public, he has said “I’m 71 and I’m getting too old for politics.”

Instead he is is going to focus on philanthropy, and says of this aim in life:
“I’d rather spend time helping the tens of thousands that are homeless and hungry in this country … that’s why I’ve donated $5m to Foodbank,”

As for the annoying texts, apparently 17 million were sent and they got 10,000 complaints, to which he said:
“Ten thousand is pretty minimal compared to 17 million and the people who were complaining were not going to vote for us anyway,”
