For a brief, confused moment in July 2025, Scotland became the darling of the MAGA crowd. American far-right accounts gushed about its rugged beauty, its deep sense of tradition, and of course, its supposed love for Donald Trump. The Scottish people, they claimed, admired Trump’s “strength” and “independence.” Even golf courses were retweeted with reverence.
Then reality struck – Scotland didn’t love Trump. In fact, polls, headlines, and Scottish Twitter made it embarrassingly clear he’s about as popular there as cold haggis. Within 48 hours, the narrative flipped.
Suddenly, the tartan love affair turned into tart-tongued slander. Trump supporters began tweeting wild falsehoods: claims of “18-month wait times for basic surgery,” that Scotland was a “third-world socialist failure,” and even that it was a “nothing country” that “won’t exist in ten years.”
Here are some other samples of the newfound hate:

Apparently, a country’s worth is measured not by its culture, history, or achievements – but by its loyalty to Donald Trump. If that loyalty is missing, no lie is too absurd, no insult too petty.
It’s not foreign policy; it’s fan fiction. And it’s getting more unhinged by the day.
But here’s the thing: Scotland has weathered centuries of storms – literal and political. It’s not going anywhere. It has its flaws, like any nation, but its healthcare system still manages to care for its people without bankrupting them. Its culture is global, its voice is loud, and its people are proud. If a few angry Americans want to throw tantrums on Twitter because Scotland refused to kneel before a man who puts tomato sauce on steak, well… they’ll just have to scream into the loch.

Nobody might have seen this coming, a mongrel misfit mashed up messy scraps and rubbish nation wth a huge ego and no braincontent bellowing through leaders, leeches, licehearts, lamebrains and Murdoch maggoty media. Donald Dogarse is lower than a midge’s mort’s dock. Yukipoo!
I suspect most MAGA minions wouldn’t be able to find Scotland on a map of the world.
Max, it’s not far from Fiji, just south of Nepal.
My rowing team reached within two hours of pushing off from Suva.
Well said Michael!
As said, most MAGA morons wouldn’t know where Scotland is, somewhere in Nova Scotia, sadly just beyond the border of their comprehension, their delusional world? And of course these profound tweets were hosted on ‘X’ or ‘Truth Social’ I presume, the hate master’s forum, a bunch of bullies, thieves, assassins and reprobates – oh sorry what was that last one, a reptile or tariff of some sort? I mean who calls a social platform disguised as a sex video or moral platitude – something a petulant nut job would eat for breakfast while watching Fox News and zapping his anus with a tattoo laser because it looks great, and not just because Kennedy Junior announced it was good for your mental health from the bowels of their new MAGA Washington DC.
To be quite honest I don’t think an angry hate spitting MAGA dino could possibly appreciate the beauty and majesty of the Scottish landscape, Celtic history, heritage and imagination. They’d mistake a golf ball for their own appendages and take a swing at someone else’s – ah MAGA USA – There’s another find mess they’ve gotten themself into.
Ditch the subs, finish the wall and prevent these clowns from sailing across the Atlantic and Pacific – they are a biohazard to the civilised world.
Thank you, Jon.
Our neighbour in Canberra, an elderly German lady who grew up in WW2 Germany, later moving to Canada, the USA, then Australia, told me a wonderful little story.
Shortly after moving to the USA she was asked what Canada was like. She replied:
“Oh, it’s very tropical.”
She was believed. It still makes her laugh.
That lady is active in just about every anti-LNP Facebook group, every anti-Trump group, and any page she can read about politics.
The poor lady lost her mother about two years ago. Fancy losing your mother when you are 87.
Whenever the MAGA crowd get upset they pull their Trump card and call everybody else socialists.
This from a country that has surrendered to autocracy – defined in the dictionary, as a form of government in which one ruler has absolute control and decision-making power in all matters of state and over all the country’s people. Stalin is suggested as an example, I can think of another !
Terry, the German lady I just spoke of said that what she is seeing in America now is eerily similar to what she knows of Germany in the late 1930s.
The Scots are mostly wonderful people, though Glaswegians can be a bit abrupt, and I love the inventiveness of their anti Trump signs. You have to feel sorry for the demonstrable ignorance of his supporters. I saw one of the South Park supposed pro-Trump segments. It was hilarious. I can imagine it would send the MAGAnuts spare.

No it’s not, it’s just down the road in the back room of the Tasmanian Whisky Shop in Launceston.

I’ve been rereading, for the first time in over 40 years, William L Shirer’s The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and the German lady you mention is pretty much right on the money. Things are only going to get worse for the US and the rest of the world.
GL, you’re talking about South Scotland. Different place altogether.
Almost chillingly Trump and his cronies appear to be creating their own version of the brown shirts.

Roswell,
Are you sure, because a whisky shop sounds like a great place for Scotland to reside.
I’m 85% certain.
PS: South Scotland is part of Scotland. It’s just landlocked in Tasmania.
I’ll take Scotland any day – we can fit it into Tassie just nicely !
I love to watch reels of MAGA nuts being asked questions about common knowledge, and they have absolutely NONE. To be a MAGAnut you need an IQ less than 20
