On the campaign trail today Peter Dutton couldn’t resist this little Trump-like dig:
“Forget about what being told by the ABC and The Guardian, (and) the other hate media. Forget about that.“
I assume he means independent and social media when he says “other” (though he probably couldn’t name any).
Nonetheless, we’re quite proud to be among the “other”.
Peter Dutton’s labeling of centre to left-leaning media as “hate media” is a lazy tactic to dodge accountability. It’s not just an insult to outlets striving for fairness – it’s an attempt to vilify those who challenge his positions. Media advocating for climate action, minority rights, refugee compassion, equity, and a just society aren’t driven by hate; they’re pushing for progress and holding power to account. That’s their job in a democracy, not a conspiracy against him.
Calling them “hate media” flips the script, painting scrutiny as malice while sidestepping the substance of their critiques. If Dutton disagrees with their priorities – say, on climate or refugees – he should engage with arguments, not sling mud. Dismissing them as hateful shuts down debate and fuels division, which is worse than insulting. It’s irresponsible.
A better response from him would be to address specific criticisms head-on. If he thinks climate policies are impractical, explain why. If he opposes refugee reforms, make a case (without playing the race card). Smearing the messenger only shows he’s more interested in rallying his base than defending his stance. The media isn’t perfect, but branding it “hate” for doing its job is a cheap shot that undermines trust in public discourse. He’s a leader – act like one and debate the issues, not the headlines.
Dear reader, we need your support
Independent sites such as The AIMN provide a platform for public interest journalists. From its humble beginning in January 2013, The AIMN has grown into one of the most trusted and popular independent media organisations.
One of the reasons we have succeeded has been due to the support we receive from our readers through their financial contributions.
With increasing costs to maintain The AIMN, we need this continued support.

Dutton was a defective in the police until he fled prudently, and is the current farcical front for conservative propaganda, profiteering and prostration to evils. If he is an answer, it must be to an empty strait jacket or a confinement cell for loonies. I would not accept his ideas on a suitable pair of socks, the DUD.
Dutton clearly does not watch or listen to the ABC, which has become nearly as Pro-Dutton as the Murdoch rubbish.
The bias towards the LNP on the ABC is gob smacking, but for all its “Peter Dutton says” moment, nothing will save them from Dutton’s cuts.
Apparently the list of news services in the US that Trump wants the broadcasting licenses cancelled for by the FCC (the equivalent of our ACMA) includes:
Voice of America, NBC, ABC, CNN, CBS, Network News and others
Why? Because they deliver “partisan and fake news”, as well as being “anti-Trump and radical”
Dutton is sounding more likle Trump every day.
At first I thought this was a little light humour, but I now find on checking that Dutton has actually said these things to his supporters, part of his deep hatred for the free and balanced media outlets.
He may well have gone on to say ‘listen to that nice Mr Murdoch and to the good guys at SKY ‘ as part of a total perversion of the media offering in this country.
He is sounding more and more like Trump every day, and more desperate too. But I hear that over two million voters have already cast the votes (myself include) and I cannot believe that these good folk would be rushing to the early polls to vote for Spudley. I hope I’m not wrong !
According to the AEC there are 18.4 million registered voters in Australia, so over ten percent have already made a commitment.
How do you stop all this political propaganda from Boofhead Duddo??
VOTE 1 ALI FRANCE IN DICKSON & GIVE AUSTRALIA A CARING POLITICIAN.
Never mind Trump, Potty Boy is acting like a diminutive Austrian born corporal who became a German citizen in 1932 and who Hindenburg had to reluctantly appoint Chancellor in 1933. Potty Boy is an authoritarian idiot who is intellectually lazy as well as racist, misogynistic and generally despicable.
