Palestinian Supporters Hunger Strike For Change

Media Release

Cold weather has not deterred an alliance of activists for Palestine 🇵🇸, united in a 48 hour hunger strike at Sydney Town Hall Square. Still more are participating from home.

The duration of this strike is a reminder that the conflicts have their origins in the events of 1948 in Palestine, not on October 7 2023.

Activists have draped a Palestinian flag over the City of Sydney’s iconic “anchor” sculpture and are using this as a makeshift shelter.

Vivienne Moore who is participating in the vigil until Wednesday says:

“We need humanity to stand with us to stop the genocide in Gaza. The risk of famine in Gaza is increasing with the deliberate withholding of humanitarian aid, including food, in the ongoing blockade.

“The Gaza Freedom Flotilla crew are heroes, who are exposing the complete failure of governments around the world to lift a finger to stop Israel’s mass starvation and genocide in Gaza. We are fasting in solidarity with their campaign to find solutions.

“The entire 2.1 million population of Gaza is facing prolonged food shortages, with nearly half a million people in a catastrophic situation of hunger, acute malnutrition, starvation, illness and death. This is one of the world’s worst hunger crises, unfolding in real time.

“Witnesses say that Israel-supervised access to minimal aid supplies has lead to long journeys, desperation, crowding into wire cages, shootings and death.

Spain has summoned the head of the Israeli embassy in Madrid, Dan Porez, for a reprimand following the arrest of the “Madleen” flotilla.

“Australians and the Albanese government need to do more to end this war safely and peacefully. Please stand with us as we stand with humanity,” said Ms Moore.

A snap rally will be held from 4.30pm at the same location.

Dear reader, we need your support

Independent sites such as The AIMN provide a platform for public interest journalists. From its humble beginning in January 2013, The AIMN has grown into one of the most trusted and popular independent media organisations.

One of the reasons we have succeeded has been due to the support we receive from our readers through their financial contributions.

With increasing costs to maintain The AIMN, we need this continued support.

  1. One of the images showing Netanyahu and Trump is missing another key ally, disruptor and agent of chaos, Vladimir Putin.

The latter Putin was desperate for a pause vs Ukraine, and October 7 was manna from heaven, ditto for Netanyahu and Trump (to claim the Dems are weak &/or antisemitic).

  2. The Right Wing Nut Jobs at News Corp and SKY are telling their followers that the “The Gaza Freedom Flotilla” in the form of the ketch Madleen was not carrying enough aid to make a marked difference on the suffering in Gaza. As always they completely miss the point of this exercise.
The point of the Madleen in testing the illegal Israeli blockade of the Gaza coast was to demonstrate the illegality of the Israeli campaign and to show how their actions are adding to the suffering and attempted genocide of the Palestinian people.
The vessel is carrying modest quantities of Flour, Infant formula, water desalination equipment and the like. Notably it is not carrying guns and ammunition (the stated reason for the Israeli blockade) and it has at all times made itself available for inspection by competent authorities.

As anticipated the Israeli authorities illegally boarded the vessel in international waters and directed it to an Israeli port. It is at this point that the international community must take action to highlight the actions of the IDF and demand that they allow the free passage of shipping in and out of Gaza and that the land crossings be opened to genuine humanitarian aid.

Netanyahu is as always testing international law and human rights laws and we must call him to account as the crew of the Medleen are endeavouring to do.

We really don’t need Greg Sheridan, Sharri Markson and Peta Credlin lecturing us on the rights and the wrongs of a policy of intentional starvation.
