Why politicians love the uneducated – and why Trump loves them the most

It’s often said that politicians love the uneducated. It’s not hard to see why – they’re the ideal voter: loyal, loud, and unlikely to ask inconvenient questions like, “Wait, didn’t you promise me the opposite four weeks ago?” But while most politicians quietly count on the under-informed to deliver votes, Donald Trump elevated the idea into an art form.

“I love the poorly educated!” he bellowed triumphantly at a 2024 rally – and the crowd cheered like he’d just announced free steak knives. Most candidates would have quickly walked it back, added context, maybe slipped in a half-hearted apology. Trump? He doubled down. He had finally found his people – and they, in turn, found their messiah.

Because here’s the truth: educated voters are a hassle. They read. They fact-check. They remember things. They say things like “empirical evidence” and “constitutional limitations.” But the poorly educated? They chant. They post memes. They retweet conspiracy theories with no concern for grammar or plausibility. You can tell them the ocean is full of wind turbines causing cancer and they’ll nod solemnly and pass it on.

For Trump, it’s a dream scenario. Why invest in policy nuance when you can just repeat, “They’re coming for your cats and dogs”? Why bother with economic theory when “TRUMP = JOBS” fits so nicely on a red cap?

And the system helps. America spends billions on defense but can’t afford a decent civics class. School libraries are being stripped bare in case someone accidentally learns something. Textbooks are rewritten to make slavery sound like a career opportunity. It’s no accident – it’s the game plan. An uneducated electorate is like Play-Doh: pliable, easily moulded, and more fun to throw.

Ask yourself: Who benefits when voters can’t name their own congressional representative, but know every word to “Lock Her Up”? Who wins when science is suspect, journalists are evil, and any question is “fake news”? Trump doesn’t just love the poorly educated – he needs them.

Education is dangerous. It leads to doubt, and doubt leads to thinking, and thinking leads to wondering whether a man who confuses airports with revolutionary war battles might not be the best choice for national leadership. Trump knows this. That’s why, under his watch, education funding was a low priority – but loyalty? That was priceless.

In fact, loyalty became the only qualification that mattered. Cabinet positions weren’t filled by the most experienced – they were filled by the most obedient. Credentials were out. Conspiracy theories were in. If you said “climate change is a hoax” and hated librarians, you were halfway to a job.

There’s a reason his rallies don’t hand out fact sheets. There’s a reason his speeches are light on details and heavy on volume. And there’s a reason he can make a spelling error in a tweet and still insist he meant it that way (“covfefe” lives on). The less you know, the better he sounds.

To his base, truth is elitist, experts are liars, and grammar is suspicious. Meanwhile, Trump is out there selling snake oil by the gallon – and his customers keep lining up for refills.

So yes, politicians love the uneducated. But Trump? Trump built his brand on them. Not with disdain, but with genuine affection – the way a magician loves a distracted audience. The trick works better when no one’s watching too closely.

And in the end, that’s the real brilliance of it all: he convinced millions that education is a scam, facts are woke, and questioning authority is treason. Not bad for a guy who can’t pronounce “anonymous.”

  • Trump's Big Beautiful Bill has passed the Senate with Vance's tie-breaking vote.

Listening to a BBC interview with a jubilant Republican Senator it seems that we have been swallowing Democrat's misinformation when it comes to debt: evidently it won't increase debt - the current US national debt stands above $36 trillion and represents 122 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) and according to Democrats will increase by $3.3 trillion over ten years - but that's all malarkey according to Republicans !

But the good news is that it will relieve waitresses and cab-drivers from having to pay tax on tips (or overtime).

The Food Stamp program helping low-income families buy food, called the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), will be slashed by $68.6bn over a decade. In the 2023 fiscal year, 42.1 million people per month benefited from the programme, according to the US Department of Agriculture.

The good news continues with federal funding cuts of $US930bn to Medicaid, the largest US programme providing healthcare to low-income people.
More than 71 million low-income Americans were enrolled in Medicaid for health insurance as of March.

The tax concession to encourage the take-up of EV's will be eliminated, worth about $US7500 if you are buying a new car : Elon Musk takes it personally, he said “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.”
This measure will assist the conventional car manufacturers and discourage people from buying those pesky EV's.
This is how Trump gets back at people.

And, of course there will be tax cuts to the wealthy so, as you wing home from the Bezos nuptials in Venice, in your private jet it's "win win" all round.

  • Trump is a total stranger to truth, sense, education, decency, awareness. Ill-equipped for life outside of imperious ignorant pilfering, larceny, dishonesty and self advancement, Trump remains a monument to sick drives, out of sight of Freud, couches, medication, analysis or assured treatment. Trump is an ulcer on a parasite on the world's body...we must all avoid anything vaguely Trumpian.

  • Oh yeah, PP.

In addition to the provisions hitting the poor, the OBB bill has provisions within its 1000 pages that will restrain anyone from suing T-Rump and / or any of his family, and other such horrors. America has now truly effed itself over. It's now officially a congress of ring kissing assholes. The rest of the world is organizing to stay well enough away. There'll be no soft landing for America as it crumbles, other than a pile of its own manure.

  • Marjorie Taylor Greene was reported to have assented to the BBB without having read it. I'd be surprised if she was the only one guilty of complete ignorance of its contents. But given that, for the Repugs, it's pretty much a slopfest with the primary focus on acquisition of as much personal benefit in whatever form without ending up in jail, they're hardly likely to be inclined towards best-practice governance as in... actually reading and comprehending 1000 pages of arcane legalism.

['Dang me', says the puzzled senator, 'what's all these words mean... I ain't never seen so many long words... givin' me a dang headache.']

  • Seems to me that Krasnov aka TACO Trumpery is following the Russian strategy to destroy the US economy from within without firing a shot in anger. Doubtless his family master spy feeds the anti-dementia pills each morning to encourage the next brain fart for wrecking the entire economy, including agriculture, not just industrial & manufacturing.

Looking further ahead, the BRICS trade bloc (Brazil, Russia, India, PRC China, Indonesia, South Africa) is a market multiples times larger that the US Anglo-European bloc. Now add a trading currency that IS NOT the $US and there is another hit against America. This BRICS Bloc must overtake the American bloc just as America overtook Europe in late 19th century.

The Russians have produced many Chess Grandmasters so it is probably wise to think through ALL strategies because the Russians are playing for an end game check mate.
