Yes. Shock horror!
We can’t have Muslims getting The Bomb, can we?
Although, if you look at their philosophy – they might be safer with it than some others are – Ayatollah Khamenei said the Islamic Republic considers the pursuit and possession of nuclear weapons “a grave sin” from every logical, religious and theoretical standpoint.
Christian countries see nuclear weapons as tools for maintaining peace through deterrence, to be used as a last resort – (blah blah). Exception – The Catholic church regards nuclear weapons as inherently immoral.
The Jewish state of Israel views nuclear weapons as necessary to prevent the recurrence of the Holocaust.
The history of the development of nuclear weapons begins with the Nazi period in Germany, but moves quickly to the UK and USA. Jewish scientists promoted The Bomb, including Leo Szilard and Albert Einstein (who both later fought against the bomb project), believing that the USA would never actually use the bomb.
Despite the fact that Hitler’s onslaught on Europe was defeated by Russian troops, the international politics of the Allies after World War 2 was dominated by Russophobia. That was well understood by the Russians – so the inevitable next step was The Russian Bomb. An uneasy situation developed – peace through stalemate? – with the doctrine of MAD – Mutually Assured Destruction. And onward – as those two nations escalated their nuclear weapons… Fear of other nations led to this quasi-religious belief in Deterrence. International fears spread, and consequently other nations acquired The Bomb.
Deterrence clearly doesn’t work, to prevent war in one sense, as attacks and wars continue.
But you could ponder that Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan might have been safe from USA attack, had they possessed nuclear weapons. However odious the North Korean regime may be, it is certainly safer from USA attack because they have nuclear weapons.
Israel has at least 90 nuclear weapons:
“Above all else, our submarine fleet acts as a deterrent to our enemies who want to destroy us… They need to know that Israel can attack, with great might, anyone who tries to harm it.” (Benjamin Netanyahu).
Zionist Jews consider the Samson Option; the D-Day strategy to annihilate the whole region by employing nuclear weapons in case Israel as a state is on the verge of collapse. Unlike MAD, Israel’s Samson Option specifically threatens its non-nuclear opponents.
Is it any wonder, with Israel’s paranoid fear of Iran, that now, some Iranian ministers are arguing for Iran to get nuclear weapons? And of course, the Western world is in an anxious dither about this, and Donald Trump is threatening Iran with bombing “if a deal is not reached”. All this is despite the fact that the Iranian Supreme Leader maintains the fatwa, and US intelligence agencies reaffirmed that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon.
Given the stupidity of the species, it is a miracle that nuclear weapons have not yet been used, since 1945. There really is a good argument for Iran to have nuclear weapons, seeing that Iran has for a long time been lined up by Christian American patriots for “regime change”, and by Israeli extremists for existing at all.
However, still the Iranian leadership is sticking to their religious belief against having nuclear weapons. And – oh dear – it mightn’t matter, because even if Iran did have “the deterrent”, it might not deter Israel, if the Samson option were to be put into action.
The military atom was never envisaged as a classic form of deterrence, but as an assurance that Israel would not hesitate to commit suicide to kill its enemies rather than be defeated. This is the Masada complex. This way of thinking is in line with the “Hannibal Directive”, according to which the IDF must kill its own soldiers rather than let them become prisoners of the enemy. Is the possibility of a World War real?
So, we’d better hope there will soon be a new Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreement between Iran, the United States, and five other global powers, even despite the bullying way in which Donald Trump is urging for this.

The Hannibal Directive of Masada may be an inspiration for the amoral IDF currently committing GENCOIDE IN GAZA AGAINST THE INDIGENOUS PALESTINIAN RESIDENTS. However, can we be hopeful; that Bibi the Butcher lacks the stomach to self-destruct ..... preferring to become the Adam in the succeeding dystopian post apocalyptic world??
But what if the only surviving ''Eve'' is a Palestinian or Christian woman??
NEC, “THE INDIGENOUS PALESTINIAN RESIDENTS”
This rampant misuse of the term indigenous serves no good purpose. Palestinians like all other members of our unique and essentially genetically identical species originated in Africa. If they had originated in Palestine they would be a different species from the rest of us and this is clearly not the case. We are all of the same species and our species originated in Africa. Homo sapiens are indigenous to Africa, nowhere else.
This constant and ubiquitous misuse of the term serves only to misinform and mislead the public and permits it to be weaponised for the purpose of creating division amongst people based on something they have absolutely no control over nor responsibility for, that is, their birth. People are encouraged to discriminate against other people not on the basis of their behaviour but upon the circumstances of their birth. Natalists, Nationalists or Nazis, you can call it what you like but you can’t blame the intolerance of any people of our common genetic race on racism. Not now that genetic science has open our eyes to the stark reality that there is no evidence whatsoever to support the belief in different races. Racism is just another ignorant act of faith, a denial of reality.
Just the other night on Q&A when the discussion turned to immigration, one of the panelists made the point that all Australian’s are united by the common fact that they are all either immigrants or the descendants of immigrants. Immediately the presenter reacted with the devisive dogmatic reflex, “except the indigenous peoples of Australia!” There are no indigenous people of Australia. Everyone in Australia came from some where else or are descended from ancestors who came from some where else and ultimately all Australian people and all of the world’s people are descended from ancestors that originated in Africa.
The term indigenous is being misused as a claim and an excuse for privileged treatment over universal human rights with no justification whatsoever. Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinians who are genetically no different from themselves. There is no genetic excuse. People don’t have to be indigenous to be permitted to reside in their homes without being exterminated by real estate developers.
"Why can’t Iran have nuclear weapons?" Because they might attack The Donalds hair and mess it up.
More BS from BS, the AIMN's resident tin-foil hat wearer.
Yes, Canguro, some words trigger him, the chief one being “Indigenous”. Which means the first known inhabitants of a place. The first known inhabitants of Australia are the Aboriginals, which is Latin for original inhabitants.
Roswell,
What triggers me is the misinformation spread by the ubiquitous misuse of words. The purpose of language is communication, and the constant misuse of words either through ignorance or deliberate intent only serves to stifle communication of the truth.
Aboriginal is the word that is properly used to describe the first known inhabitants of a place, as in reference to the aboriginals of the Americas, who were the original human inhabitants of those continents. The gen in indigenous is derived from the same gen you will find in genesis and genetics and it refers to origins. Indigenous refers to where inhabitants originated as a species. Over long periods of evolutionary time island habitats may produce unique species that are indigenous, ie that originated there and nowhere else. Apart from bats, there are no indigenous mammals in New Zealand and humans only arrived there about a thousand years ago.
Australia is an island continent long separated from the rest of the world. That’s why marsupials and monotremes exist here and have disappeared from the rest of the world. Similarly, early primates such as Lemurs exist in the island of Madagascar but no longer in Africa and since the separation from the mainland have evolved into species indigenous to Madagascar and naturally exist nowhere else.
There were never any primates in Australia that could evolve into indigenous humans. Don’t take my word for it, consult the geneticists who have now mapped the human genome. They will tell you that there is only one species or race of human beings still extant on the planet and that species originated in Africa. The isolation endured by the first people to arrive in Australia has not been long enough for a new indigenous species to evolve. Therefore, there are no indigenous people in Australia. To assert that there is serves, as I have said, the ignorant beliefs of racists who wish to divide humanity up into those who deserve privileges and those who do not, all based on solely on the nature of a person’s birth.
There are no indigenous people of Australia. Merely being born here makes you a native (derived from the same word as natal) whether your parents are brand new immigrants or if your ancestors arrived here sixty thousand years ago. Genetically speaking, there is virtually no difference between two such new born babies. People aren’t born racists. They have to be taught to be racist, often by ignorant idiots who obliviously or perhaps deliberately spread divisive lies with their careless use of the language.
Hopeless.
Sully,
Point of order: there are plenty of marsupials in the Americas. Around 100 species if I remember correctly, approximately one third of the global total.
The remainder of your bigoted lecture is not worth wasting my time on.
The significance of This question about Iran is being ignored in the corporate media. Trump's ultimatum to Iran demands that Iran should be denied a nuclear weapon; denied inter-continental missiles, and denied too other asymmetric and conventional weapons capabilities. All these demands go beyond the NPT and the existing JCPOA. Trump has made those demands previously, but today he says: If Iran “doesn’t make a deal, there will be bombing. It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before”.
It's not a 'coalition of the willing', it's a 'coalition of big-chesting lunatics'. A conga-line of unimaginative potty-sitting cowards. Right now, through the gob of T-Rump and his flunkies, there's provocation, disingenousness and back-flips piled high upon one another. And almost all others are dancing their part in the brutal stupidity, including Britain, Europe, Oz, Zelenski etc - it's sewer of schoolyard Machiavellianism, everyone held to ransom. It's flooding our TVs and news big-time. All this as an attempt to reinforce America's crumbling hegemony, apparently by design to get at China and also Iran (to leverage out Central Asia and Bibi's broader Levant).
T-Rump's latest to the Mega-Corps, "Don't worry about the bourse, check out the bond market." Never mind the splatter of ordinary salary and wage earners, the unfortunates and the disabled.
Just the same old coercion, extortion and thievery.
