Tulsi Gabbard channeled wrong Secretary of State in supporting Trump’s preemptive attack on Iran

Director of Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard sure caved quickly ahead of Trump’s dastardly bombing of Iran Saturday

In March she stated:

“… the Intelligence Community continues to assess Iran is not building a nuclear weapon and the Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei has not authorized a nuclear weapons program.”

That did not comport with Trump’s support of Israel’s week long attack on Iran, ostensibly to destroy Iran’s nuclear program. He publicly criticized her twice in the last week, saying “She is wrong.”

Two lashes were enough for Tulsi so she reverted to Trump lies that Iran’s on the brink of nukes within weeks. Then she used another Trump sliming tactic to cover up her lies “The dishonest media is intentionally taking my testimony out of context and spreading fake news as a way to manufacture division.”

Tulsi’s cave in gave unanimous administration support for Trump’s attack on Iran’s nuclear sites. It mirrors the disgraceful cave in by Secretary of State Colin Powell which enabled the Iraq war in 2003.

On February 5, 2003, Powell abandoned his previous strong opposition to George W. Bush’s lust to attack Iraq. As the most esteemed member of the Bush war counsel, Powell had the power to prevent the attack with one truthful statement calling the war a hoax. But he caved to careerism and cowardice telling this gigantic whopper to the UN Security Council:

“My colleagues, every statement I make today is backed up by sources – solid sources. These are not assertions. What we’re giving you are facts and conclusions based on solid intelligence.”

Bush got his war and Powell got his current place of infamy in US history for lies that enabled a war that killed over a million Iraqis along with 4,400 American. All for nothing except US unipolar dominance.

Twenty-two years later Gabbard took on the mantle of Colin Powell as the most esteemed voice of peace in Trump’s war council, rolling over for Trump to enter the war.

Nothing wrong with channeling a former Secretary of State. But Powell should be dead last on her list to emulate. Topping the Secretary of State list is William Jennings Bryan. Most folks remember him as a three time losing Democratic presidential candidate famous for his ‘Cross of Gold’ speech at the 1896 Convention.

But Bryan’s great peace initiative was resigning as Woodrow Wilson’s Secretary of State on June 8, 1915 in protest to Wilson’s obsession with intervening in the Great War in Europe. Bryan rightly claimed that the German U-boat campaign was no more offensive than the Allied blockade starving Germany. He also broke with Wilson over Wilson’s refusal to warn US citizens not to travel on British vessels stating:

“An American citizen can, by putting his own business above his regard for this country, assume for his own advantage unnecessary risks and thus involve his country in international complications”

Gabbard hasn’t one iota of the decency and moral courage Bryan expressed trying to head off America’s disastrous entry into WWI. All Wilson’s intervention accomplished was preventing stalemate that could have prevented the ‘hard peace’ which started Germany down to road to ruin and Nazism.

It took five weeks for President George W. Bush to attack Iraq after Powell’s lies at the UN. Trump waited just one day after Gabbard caved before dropping his bombs on Iran.

With Tulsi Gabbard’s careerism and cowardice on board, Trump was free to light the fuse unleashing the horrors all out war with Iran will bring to the Middle East, America: indeed the world.
