By Lachlan J McKenzie – Melbourne correspondent for sanity, gnashing teeth, and fried nerves
Donald J. Trump is not pretending anymore.
This isn’t a campaign rant, or some frothy Truth Social tantrum. This is the sitting President of the United States declaring that Los Angeles is “occupied by illegal aliens and criminals” and must be liberated.
Liberated. Like Fallujah. Like Normandy.
In a post soaked in dystopian delusion and proto-fascist fervour, Trump named Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, and the DOJ, demanding they take “all action necessary” to restore order. Not suggest. Not request. Direct.
And make no mistake: He can. Because he is President. Again.
Denise Shrivell, Australian media analyst, nailed it:
“He knows he’s lying – but his cult followers believe every word.”
Aaron Rupar in the U.S. went further:
“The president exists in a dystopian fantasy world with no connection to reality.”
But this isn’t just fantasy. It’s operational.
The cult has taken the wheel, and their leader is barking orders through a megaphone laced with xenophobia, paranoia, and unchecked authority.
Â
Let’s break it down.
Trump’s post invokes the following phrases:
“Migrant Invasion”
“Insurrectionist mobs”
“Liberate Los Angeles”
“All action necessary”
This is not coded. It’s clear. It’s a roadmap for martial law.
And now he has:
âś… The military (via the Department of Defense)
âś… Federal law enforcement (DHS, DOJ)
âś… A Supreme Court tilted hard in his favour
âś… GOP governors and state houses ready to fall in line
The Insurrection Act of 1807 gives him authority to deploy troops if he declares that federal law can’t be enforced through ordinary means.
And he’s done just that – on social media.
Here is the pathway to dictatorship. It is not hypothetical.
Trump declares parts of California ungovernable.
DHS and military units begin coordinated deployments under the guise of protecting federal agents.
A violent clash (real or provoked) occurs.
Trump invokes the Insurrection Act, bypassing state authority.
Federal troops occupy key sites in Los Angeles.
Trump suspends asylum and expands ICE raids.
Protests swell. Some governors resist. Trump calls them “traitors.”
Voter suppression efforts intensify in Democrat-held areas.
National Guard deployments continue under federal command.
Trump claims the 2026 midterms cannot proceed in certain districts.
Emergency orders freeze certification of results.
A Supreme Court case emerges that asks: Can elections be suspended in times of domestic unrest?
Welcome to the constitutional cliff.
You’re in Melbourne or Marrickville, not Manhattan. Why should you care?
Because when America sneezes, the world gets the flu — and this time, it’s Ebola:
❌ U.S. democracy collapses? Global authoritarianism gets a green light.
❌ The U.S. dollar drops? Australia’s economy buckles.
❌ Climate action, peacekeeping, AI regulation? Gone.
And you can bet the Murdoch machine in Sky News HQ will cheer it on. Trumpism Down Under? Already rehearsing.
Trump is not threatening to become a dictator. He’s doing the paperwork.
This is not a drill. This is not satire. This is a red flare in the dead of night.
Australia must pay attention. Speak loudly. Prepare diplomatically.
Because the United States of Emergency is open for business. And its CEO is no longer joking.

Somewhere recently I read that the political structure of a nation is at its most vulnerable when the divide between the haves and have nots is the greatest.... or words to that effect.
It seems to be an accurate description of the US at the moment.
And the Big Beautiful Bill will increase the divide, the roadmap for 2025 which was prepared by the far right in preparation for Trump winning office is being enacted and the nation will suffer.
We on the outside can only look on in despair as the USA implodes.
Vladimir Putin must be very proud of his boy in the White House.
Not only has he sought to disrupt and corrupt the international rules based order characterized by treaties, conventions, and multilateral institutions designed to promote peaceful relations, cooperation and trade, but he has now initiated civil war within the US.
He can expect an Order of Lenin !
I'll be very keen to see how Albanese reacts...and America's boy here, Marles.
One could go further in suggesting that it's about making independent cities, often also state or regional capitals, into freeports or free economic zone cities, to bypass democracy and run like corporations.
See the UK post Brexit free zones too, and the free market ideas of the Tech Bros' muse Curtis Yarvin.
Although Musk and Trump have publicly broken up, Tech Bros' Sacks is still in the White House, with VP JD Vance who is the protegé or mentee of Peter Thiel*, Musk's chum....
*Related, Thiel's company Palantir is scrutinised on its sensitive public data collection, retention and government contracts; there is a local subsidiary, but nada in media?
