The King Who Didn’t – Tale of a Very Sad Failed Man

The King who didn’t, didn’t care,
No matter what happened anywhere.
His biggest worry  – was his hair,
While his people lived in such despair.

So when King Don farted
As he departed
His people simply cheered
While he leered.

“They just don’t know me
How much they owe me.”

He promised the world
The Great dream unfurled
Of a Kingdom of power and glory
But he made lies his very own story.

So with a crown on his head
And a throne made of bread
He ruled with a quirky fate

Through fields he did prance
The “golf ball advance”
His reign was a twisted estate

With charities closed
And good workers deposed
He made long friends into foes

Despite these deeds so absurd
The kingdom concurred
That King Don was really their mate!

Until the day came
When the skies turned grey
And a dragon appeared at the gate

With a puff and a snort
King Don was a sport
And challenged the beast to debate

The dragon laughed loud, its voice like a storm,
For words were no match for the fire it formed.
But King Don stood tall, his look cold as ice,
More worried for treasure than his people’s price.

He promised the beast a heap of pure gold,
If it would leave his castle, its riches untold.
But strange to say, the Dragon
Made a meal of the Art of his Deal

Still, the king’s heart was stone, his soul darkly blind,
As his people cried, he paid them no mind.
He cared not for their plight, their hunger, their pain,
For King Don’s cruelty was his ultimate reign.

When the dragon departed, appeased by the gold,
The kingdom lay shattered, their stories untold.
A leader so selfish, so cruel and so vain,
Proof that power without love leads to nothing but pain.

David has had an interesting career. Passionate about social justice he got waylaid in a fundamentalist cult for some years. Ended up heading it after "God" died, and then led a process that saw it wound up and "God" denounced. Wrote about it in "My Brother's Eyes" with my brother John. (Available on Spotify and other streams, paperback from David, Amazon wants $70 for copies they don't have!) Podcaster of No Sex Please - I'm Religious, and run a disability business. Worried about fascism in the world and working hard to get my global children's kindness movement off the ground. www.zorzle.org Wondering what to do with my spare time.
