One Nation and its political relevance today

OK, can we stop this rubbish for a second or two, and can we please get back to relevancy in politics and not just outright propaganda?

Maybe just for a couple of minutes?

This whole “rise” of One Nation is built on complete rubbish… they are currently irrelevant in every single parliament they are a part of, yet the MSM and social media would have you think they are anything from the current opposition to the next federal government.

All based on what?

Based on polls two years out from an election and a well-oiled One Nation propaganda machine that makes those not quite attuned to political accuracy believe that this is as good as an exit poll on election day pointing to a 25% swing.

Hardly anything is ever mentioned about the results of the recent SA state election, where with a terminal Liberal Party, the sitting Labor government increased their majority by 5 seats. One Nation grabbed 4 Lower House seats, which, according to Pauline Hanson was a major success. Yes, One Nation won 4 Lower House seats, but Labor won 34. Can we keep it real here?

A further endorsement of One Nations total dominance of Australian politics was the recent Farrer bi-election, won by One Nation yes, and hailed as the greatest political victory since Trump won in 2024, and a sure proof of their total dominance over Labor and onward to Stalingrad we go… completely missing the fact that Labor didn’t even contest the seat. And did I mention that One Nation were preferenced by the Conservative parties?

Pauline Hanson must know she’ll never be PM, FFS. Two years out from the federal election she’d be campaigning hard in a “safe” Lower House seat if she thought the impossible was possible – but she’s not – because there is no such thing as a “safe” Lower House seat for One Nation.

This total propaganda deluge takes all the relevancy out of “normal” political discussions, there is nothing but the polls according to any media, there is nothing but a One Nation win in 2 years time, placing a 73 year old “less than” as our head of government.

When does some sort of sanity return?

The answer is “never,” when One Nation remain the biggest propaganda platform I think ever seen in this country.

Will we pay the price in 2028?

I have no doubt we will.

Will One Nation form government?

Of course not, they haven’t got a hope in hell.

Wrapping it up

It makes no difference whether One Nation is currently polling higher than Labor, or whether they outpolled the Liberals at the SA election – the only relevancy in politics is seats won. The rest is bullshit.

  1. Thanks Tim for the sound, common sense truth. This will give many hope that we actually haven’t arrived at Australia’s “American madness” era – just yet.

  2. There are uncomfortable parallels between modern populist movements and the political strategy used in 1930s Germany. The Nazi Party deliberately styled itself as a movement for ordinary workers and struggling citizens. Even its name — the National Socialist German Workers’ Party — was crafted to appeal to economically desperate Germans devastated by unemployment, inflation and national humiliation. They demonised Jews and other people who were not of the German culture, creating disharmony and division in the community with the hatred of racial and sexual differences they promoted. They claimed to be there for the average German, yet once in power, the Nazi regime aligned itself closely with major industrialists and corporate elites. Perhaps the only thing we learn from history is that people learn nothing from history and keep making the same stupid mistakes over and over again.

  3. The beautiful aspect to this is that if ON becomes the federal opposition it would mean the end of the party.
Hanson would become a minor figure while the new Leader of the Opposition took centre stage.

    She will not tolerate that.
The subsequent in-fighting will tear the party apart.

  4. Unfortunately she is supported by some very influential media and wealthy individuals/companies that are prepared to bankroll what is happening now.

Of course she now scores a $100,000 pay increase as the leader of a “minor party” but does not believe that minimum wage earners should receive a pay rise.

Personal hypocrisy from her and and the gullibility of her followers just beggars belief.

  5. Gina The Hutt is pouring millions into ON, as well as a 10% stake in whatever Nine Network/Fairfax has become, so expect some more flamboyant reporting on the rise and rise of this scurrilous mob. I’m optimistic that their nominations for seats across the country will result in the usual drop-outs, defections, and arrests. The ol’ fish’n’chip vendor doesn’t stand a chance.

  6. We have all been disappointed in Australian politics, but these days are more disturbing with futility, frustration, ignorance and unawareness at high levels. P. Hanson surges out of general but self focussed frustrations; people demand a “voice” for their own angle and attitudes. Little satisfies and polls suggest very low awareness of means and ends we might address in an age of Trumpery and neoliberal pillaging and grabs. Hanson has a school cert. and bumptious inflated presence, no experience of office, doing duty or tasks well, nothing. Laziness, lying, loudness, lacks, laughable lipwork, that is the vacuous PHON. Vote one.., garbage.

  7. I am waiting to see what David Farley does. He is a well-known and quite powerful figure in rural Australian agriculture, and playing second fiddle to Hanson may suit him for a little while, but I think he will either move to take over One Nation and make it move towards taking National Party seats, or jump out himself into the National Party. Keeping his own seat in Farrer will be more important to him than One Nation loyalty

  8. Hanson and the Ashby and Barnaby parasites are purely about how much cash they add to their bank accounts from the public purse. Politics is just a sideline.

  9. The apparent surge in One Neuron’s popularity, translates into votes for candidates and even if they don’t win, if they get more than a small (is it 4%) of the vote they get taxpayer money at $3.50 per vote. Easy money if you nominate a candidate in many seats as ON did last time. What with zillions from the wicked witch of the west the party is wallowing in funds to ensure Hanson, Bananaby and a few others live in the luxury their “battler” supporters can only wish for. I hope they get the comeuppance they deserve next time round.

  10. The media including the ABC have been all over the recent survey of about 1,000 people by RedBridge Group and Accent Research.

One thousand people ? what age demographic? What were they asked ? Was it by personal interview if so, where? Was it by phone if so landline or mobile?

Give me a break, nobody has polled me but I do note that One Nation hopefuls are queuing up at SKY to be interviewed {I use the term loosely) but, not so much the ABC who they won’t allow in the room.

Groundhog Day; Joh for PM anybody ?

  11. One Nation is like a cracker night sky rocket – all whoosh and glitz with a rush then it fizzles out and comes back to Earth with a thud but nobody takes any notice where it lands – burnt out, cold and energy expended.

  12. I really want Porline to stand for the Reps – she would probably win her seat, but she would then understand how totally irrelevant she and her fake party are

  13. Tim has created a storm on our Facebook page – over 800 comments and counting.

Glad to report that most agree with Tim.

  14. That was specious, if not appalling headline polling*, limited ‘cross tabs’ on demography etc, open to interpretation, dropped on a Sunday, guaranteeing wall to wall RW MSM and social media content and ON coverage for two or three days.

Good PR and name recognition for Red Brdige*? Normally good polls as Samaras et al add qualitative elaboration and qualification vs media sport of poll watching and ‘horse race calling’.

Big issue of applying polls to electorates and elections, different with referendums and by-elections.

  15. If our inward looking media looked beyond the parapet ie. our borders, they will observe similar n UK around Farage and Reform, where their peers are doing everything to boost Farage, beyond any actual Parliamentary presence.

Weird external insurgency against the establishment and elites by the RW MSM and ecosystem, representing the establishment and elites? In fact it’s old chestnut that pre WWII NSDAP used, pummel the centre for RW elites.

See similarities including dodgy or misrepresented polling, dog whistling, same themes across all media while avoiding others, US MAGA xenophobia vs immigrants & population growth, Islamophobia (also masking anti-semitism), US climate science denial etc.

Few remember or acknowledge how alleged Russian & US asset Farage’s biggest booster has been the contentious GB News owned by Legatum, but it was Murdoch who liaised with interim boss Andrew Neil, nothing to see here?
