NTEU warns against Dutton’s proposed “unprecedented level of ministerial intervention” into learning

National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) Media Release

Peter Dutton’s shadow education minister Sarah Henderson has revealed that Peter Dutton wants to get his hands on university and school curricula with Trump-style intervention into teaching.

Today’s Australian newspaper reports that a Dutton government would implement “an unprecedented level of ministerial intervention in course content.”

A Dutton government would task TEQSA, the body responsible for registration and compliance for universities, to audit each degree’s compliance with the Government’s political agenda.

NTEU National President Dr Alison Barnes warns that:

“Every Australian should fear the prospect of Peter Dutton deciding what does and does not get taught in schools and universities.

“Peter Dutton wants a university and school system where Peter Dutton and his ministers decide what accomplished physicists, engineers and other experts can teach and say in their classrooms and lecture theatres.

“Will climate scientists for example be able to lecture their students or will they be censored?

“This is a dangerous and unwanted. University students and their families want qualified scholars who are experts in their field to decide what will prepare them for their future career, not Peter Dutton.  As a parent I want qualified teachers and education experts to decide what my child learns, not Peter Dutton.

“This is one of the first glimpses of Peter Dutton’s plans for our halls of learning – and it’s evocative of the Trump administration’s politically motivated gutting of education and censorship in the USA.”

  • Yet MORE unsettling evidence that the unconscionably corrupt, megalomaniacal political psychopath, Dutton, is a dangerously undemocratic political fascist! It is absolutely IMPERATIVE that Australians kick this obscene dictatorial sociopath to the kerb - permanently!

  • Dutton's hubris was recently on full display when he questioned the wisdom of the CSIRO scientists who argued strongly against his nuclear reactors' proposal. Here's a bloke, a failed copper, relatively poorly educated, a demonstrative failure across many governmental portfolios, endeavouring to promote the notion that he, alone, knew more about the pros & cons of a putative nuclear industry than a group of the soundest scientific minds in the country. Naked gall on full display. It seems he's of the school that pushes the 'fake it til you make it' modus, or in other words, ignorance is no handicap for a self-promoting dunce.

  • Great comment by Canguro.
Dutton has become very wealthy since leaving the Police Force. He's not the "ordinary chap" he is trying to present himself to be. He likes to fly on Gina Rinehart's personal plane to attend her birthday party. He has a $30 million of property investments after 35 years- child care centres, a shopping plaza and properties. He's not in the Gina league but worships at her feet. But hasn't he done well? - though not removed from his more humble "Plod" days but now - scarily, Dutton - (diminutive Trump) could be next PM.
He - as Canguro says- has no understanding of science or scientific minds and advice.
I haven't yet opened my postal voting pack. Though I know that I will not be voting for Dutton PM

  • Start stockpiling history books folks as Dutton will be changing our history to fit more comfortably with the right-wing view of our past; in which he will probably feature quite prominently.

It may appear quite amusing but these people are serious, and they really hate the rest of us with a passion: Take note of the comment in the article reported in The Australian 'a Dutton government would implement “an unprecedented level of ministerial intervention in [education] course content.”

Cutting 41,000 public servants is ideological and inevitably will impact services but what is more likely is that the replacement public servants that a Dutton government will undoubtedly need would first be screened for a right-wing ideological leaning.

It is significant that Dutton and his crew have chosen only to be interviewed by SKY. Is this because SKY are balanced and free of bias as a news broadcaster should be? Of course not, they go there because of the absence of balance and because they will not be tested or their policies scrutinised.

  • Sarah Henderson? A numbskull gifted a Senate seat by the Liar Morrison.Like the Lying rodent, Morrison's poison continues to infect our politics.Boofhead's party is a bottomless pit of has beens, fools and fakes.

  • Everything Der Spud and The Spudettes bang on about is built upon a giant pillar of frozen shit and it's melting. Prepare to run away. Do not go into your bunker or you will drown.

Oh, yes, received an "Important Voting Information" envelope in the mail on Tuesday. Gosh, I thought. Who would send me this obviously and hugely, almost urgent, information? Let's just say that the reply paid envelope to the Liberal Party of Tasmania was just too good to waste. Neatly cut the bs filled page from a certain Bridget somebody-or-other into three strips and folded the voting registration form up and found my large black texta and wtote, "Get stuffed!" and "Liars!" across the front of the folded page and posted it.

So far I haven't received the same crap from Labor, but, only time will tell.

  • Low, low, subterranean low, this is the conservative Australian leadership and policy story for decades..,Jack the Joke Howard, an old classmate, was and is a dill, undereducated, a narrow minded (what mind?) prejudiced prig from mediaval mentality; on to Agony Abbott, an abyssmal dud with pontifical self aggrandisement to fuel his endless stupidities; on to shiner dud Turnbull, the only person to insist on his reflected wonder; on to the Mad maggot Morrison, warped, twisted, convulsed in stupidities of superstition and egofixated bursts and jabs, all negative. Finally we have Peter Duckwit-Futton, an ulcer of uncertainty behind a bluster of billowing bullshit, all drenchy stenchy. Dutton is ANTI-Australian in outlook, instinct, style. So, never trust or rely on conservative political thought and action here, for it stinks, is fatal to our needs and interests, is treacherous, supine to foreign interests, childish and bloody WRONG. The conservatives since Howard have had twenty of the last twenty nine years in office and have done S F A properly. Failure...s

  • Of course Der Spud can't answer a question about his favourite ABC journo. If they aren't part of the Rupert sleaze media then they do not count in his reality. What a wanker! Besides, he's probably still considering whether or not to flog the ABC off to Merdeoctopus if he gets the PM's job.

  • The absolute last thing any country needs is some grubby politician messing around with school curriculums, it is not their job and they are not appropriately qualified. School curriculums should not be politicised.
