Dear Uncle Sam

Dear Uncle Sam,

We have had our ups and downs over the years. At your best you have been charming, respectful and helpful. But you have changed.

You have become ugly and crass. I just do not recognize you anymore.

Yes, this is a break-up letter. I just cannot bear to have anything to do with you. I could forgive the indiscretions and the ugly side of your character for as long as it was possible to still pretend that you give a damn. But this charade has worn thin. I can’t keep up the pretence any longer. I just have to say goodbye before you rip the heart out of my breast.

When I was younger you were the flower of my eye. Hard and harsh enough to be exotic, but I thought that you actually believed all of the sweet dreams that we talked so long and earnestly about, late into the night, on so many occasions. Yet you have become angry and resentful. All heady words and passionate declarations; that simply no longer make much sense. Sometimes, you almost appear to have gone stark-raving mad.

Whatever. Regardless of the cause, you aren’t worried about relationships anymore. You have declared that you want to go-it-alone so many times, it is now impossible to doubt your sincerity. For the last several years you have receded into the distance. Until now, you are so entirely distracted by your own demons and fantasies that you can’t seem to see clearly anymore.

It was fun while it lasted. And no, I don’t want to hear from you.

Just get your act together and in a few years I might even visit. But for now, it’s over.

Good luck. I really do hope that you get your act together because you are in a really sorry state.

Bye…

xxx

Dear reader, we need your support

Independent sites such as The AIMN provide a platform for public interest journalists. From its humble beginning in January 2013, The AIMN has grown into one of the most trusted and popular independent media organisations.

One of the reasons we have succeeded has been due to the support we receive from our readers through their financial contributions.

With increasing costs to maintain The AIMN, we need this continued support.

  • Actually, the US was never friendly and cuddly. They have invaded dozens of countries since WWII, and overthrown many regimes. In the 70s in Chile, they helped oust a democratic president, Allende, and replaced him with the tyrant, Pinochet. There were dozens of such cases.
The US involved us in invasions of Korea, Vietnam and Iraq for their own purposes. They lied over WMD.
I think the only change has been in our perception of the US, at a time when we have far more diverse sources of information.

  • And hearing the Trump calling "make America Great Again" - ? - America was NEVER GREAT! EVER!! The population of 341,214,686 - as of today - live one week away from TOTAL destitution and poverty, with NO FREE MEDICAL, NO FREE PRESCRIPTIONS, NO LIVING AGED PENSION, NO FREE TERTIARY EDUCATION. Where their government spends more on the MILITARY than they spend on their poor and aged. In 2023, 20% of their POPULATION WAS HOMELESS!

  • donald trump head of america wow when I was young DT had a meaning that could fit the USA for the next 4 years?
    ps
dutton is worse than DT so albo has a lot to do

  • When I was young and dreamy I would go to the movies. USA seemed like a huge beautiful nation full of music and adventure. As I am now old and full of sleep I recoil in horror of the Nation where more people believe in God and angels than in being kind and generous to the poor, needy and homeless.
I am revolted by the greed of USA Capitalism.
I broke up with you when Reagan was your pathetic leader.
    I'm done.
    Don't contact me ever again.

  • Thank you DR James.

Can we also discard the AUKUS thing while we go through this break up. It appears to me that the US is asking us to join in funding their protection of their Imperial ambitions, not much of a payback for us.
