Ten takeaways from Trump’s senseless Iran war

By Walt Zlotow

  1. First time a foreign power, Israel, goaded, indeed demanded America launch a criminal war.

  2. Trump’s capitulation to Israel’s war demand is destroying his presidency and will likely hand over Congress to Democrats in November.

  3. Air power alone has not and will not achieve victory over Iran.

  4. Ignoring Iran’s ability to close Strait of Hormuz gave strategic advantage to Iran to force stalemate, if not achieve outright Iranian victory.

  5. US has greatly degraded world economy and may spiral it into recession, possibly even depression if it doesn’t end war soon.

  6. All US Gulf State’s bases have been damaged or destroyed and may never be rebuilt due to loss of US security credibility and reliability.

  7. Israel has largely destroyed its support among young Americans – disgusted with its endless manipulation of US to support both its Gaza Genocide under Biden and war to destroy Iran under Trump.

  8. If desperate Trump resumes bombing to destroy Iranian infrastructure, Iran will retaliate destroying Israeli and Gulf States infrastructure, possibly all Middle East oil production.

  9. A peaceful settlement on Iran’s sensible terms is the only path to Middle East peace.

  10. As long as the war continues, Israeli use of nuclear weapons remains a possibility

  1. Walt Zlotow, always credible and informative, outlines this grim charter of consequences as a result of the lunatic machinations of the Israeli prime minister and his American puppet, as we here in this country, on the penultimate eve of Anzac Day, are once again reminded of the unacceptable costs of engagement in martial endeavours. No winners, all losers, men and women wrecked mentally, emotionally, physically, social fabrics rent… will the madness ever cease?

  2. Butcher Bibi was an inflated ZIONAZI zealot selling an unfounded policy to a moron, just as happened in Iraq WMD, Words of Mass Deception, and Vietnam, how to misinterpret an ambiguous report to your own warfare advantage.

Now TACO Trumpery has two choices, well one choice really, stop blustering, remove all US military armaments back to their bases. However, the third and most important action, call IRAN and seek an armistice, is beyond his demented geriatric personality of ”always being correct”.

Time for Australia to remember the dead Indigenous Palestinian landowners assassinated by the amoral IDF authorised by the Isrevil Knesset. They amount to 72,000+ in Gaza with another reported 3,000+ in the Occupied West Bank.

Then Australia requires a ban on any ZIONAZIS moving into Australia.

  3. Gone but not forgotten. The American experiment in electing geriatrics has nor worked and no sign of the bible belt being able to read the situation. THe REAL”deep state” has circumvented all of the old safeguards.
Lemmings rushing to the cliff ready to jump off into the sea…

  4. I am fascinated by the claim that USA has “frozen assets” rightfully belonging to Iran, amounted to a considerable sum of dosh.
I think both Russia, and Iran have suffered economically because USA has leverage over money left under their (banking) care.
If you are trying to distinguish between Goodies and Badies, then it seems USA is always the thieving villain?

  5. Joined together by Kushner, Murdoch, MBZ/UAE, Putin, Orbán et al.

Netanyahu, an ally of former Hungarian PM ‘mini Putin’ Orbán, claimed that the new Hungarian PM Péter Magyar had invited him to Hungary; BS. He tried the same on Germany’s Merz to muddy the water, gaslight and offering BS PR to his far right Likud & Kahanist base.

Hungarian PM Magyar has now responded to Netanyahu with a warm welcome to Hungary, but the caveat if he travels to Hungary, is upon arrival he would be arrested and sent to the ICC; polite f’off 🙂

  6. Trump has just hosted Israel and Lebanon at the Whitehouse and tells us that he has persuaded Israel to hold off bombing Lebanon and in Particular Beirut for three weeks.
Big deal, what the hell is going on when we seem to acknowledge the right of Israel to bombard their sovereign neighbour?

Every massacre, every targeting and demolition of infrastructure breeds another potential Hezbollah fighter – they call them freedom fighters!

  7. Caitlyn Johnstone has an excellent piece “Biden Official: Biden Was Preparing To Bomb Iran If Re-Elected” that has an advisor to Biden saying that they had war gamed the scenario, and that bombing Iran “may have had to happen”.

It also goes on to show that the Democratic party’s platform was calling Trump a pussy for not ‘facing up to Iranian aggression’ in his first term, and that Kamala Harris said Iran was one of her highest priorities, again demonizing Iran and pushing the ‘watch out, they’re about to get nuclear weapons’ bogeyman. It is not a stretch to read that as laying the ground for bombing Iran.

The establishment Democrats or corporate Democrats, whichever you want to call them, have preached the Iran are evil gospels for decades, every bit as much as the Republicans. They like the Republicans have constantly stripped indigenous groups resisting occupation of agency by referring to them as Iran-backed terrorists to suggest that it is Iran that are the aggressors in the Middle East. It is clear as day that Israel and the USA are the aggressors.

The advisor was an Israel-born former IDF soldier, but Iran-hating and eyeing off the oil and gas in Iran has been a US sport with or without Israelis whispering in US ears ever since the Iranians had the temerity to think maybe it was theirs to control.

I don’t buy this ‘Israel conned the USA into the war’ narrative. Clearly, the war suited Israel’s bloodlust for power over the region, but that just suits the USA’s bloody thirst for global primacy.

The US ceasefire yet blockading of the Oman Sea does not suit Israel at all – they want the bombing to continue – it suits US control of the world’s oil and gas resources.

  8. I should add, great post Walt, I find your work informative and pertinent.

I hope my expressions of disagreement with any of the writers on AIMN aren’t taken as slurs or some form of discreditation of the writer.

One of AIMN’s greatness is we can disagree, we can express our thoughts – we just have to accept that others may disagree with us and say so.

  9. @ Terry Mills: When the Australian Aboriginal communities rejected occupation by Europeans especially English colonists carrying infectious diseases, the warriors were vilified and remain unrecognised as ”freedom fighters”. Yet the (few?) Aboriginal massacres that are recorded are regarded as essential security actions to secure unsuitable European livestock that ruined Australian natural pastures or retaliation for European men sexually harassing Aboriginal women.

@ Thommo: An interesting post. Thank you. The Biden information was previously unknown to me.

  10. @ Douglas Pritchard: The SMH 230426 Stephen Bartholomeusz, “Good ally UAE is turing to Trump for a lifeline in war’s dollar crunch”

“The last thing the Trump administration wants is for the Middle Eastern countries – who, as a region, are estimated to be losing more than $US500 million of income a day during the war – to start offloading their US Treasury securities and other financial assets in a firesale to raise liquidity. It could be highly destabilising for the US.

There’s an additional motivation. The UAE has reportedly told the Trump administration that, if it ran short of US dollars, it might be forced to use China’s yuan, or other currencies, for its oil and other financial transactions.

China has been very keen to convince the Middle Eastern oil producers to settle at least some of their trade in its currency. Iran has demanded payment for the tolls it imposed on ships allowed to pass through the strait in either cryptocurrency or yuan.

Oil – petrodollars – is one of the pillars of the US dollar’s global dominance of finance and trade, and of the cheaper-than-otherwise debt Washington is able to raise, despite debt levels that are quickly accelerating under Trump from what was already an unsustainable path.

It would make sense to the US government to shore up an ally and prevent it from dumping its US Treasuries and stocks and shifting the settlement of at least some of its energy trades into yuan.”

  11. I have nothing but pure contempt for Albanese, and I thought that that was reserved for John Howard alone, not any longer.

An interesting perspective from another writer with a sharp perspective.

and written by Ronni Salt who I originally found years ago via Twitter before it became a sewer of the right.
