SALVO, is the executive arm of Liberation Scotland, a civic organisation committed to constitutional research, public education, and democratic engagement.
As part of an international effort, they have recently submitted a formal petition to the United Nations seeking recognition of Scotland as a non-self-governing territory, in accordance with international decolonisation protocols. This action is supported by Justice Pour Tous Internationale (Justice for All International), a Geneva-based organisation dedicated to defending the rights of peoples under colonial or disputed governance.
The petition has been brought before the UN Special Committee on Decolonization, citing relevant legal and historical precedents. The aim is to secure an impartial international review of Scotland’s constitutional status, in line with rights affirmed under the UN Charter. Similar designations already exist for territories such as Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, and Guam.
Significantly, 18 September 2025 has now been allocated for SALVO and Liberation Scotland to present Scotland’s case in person before the United Nations in Geneva. This will be a major international step in highlighting Scotland’s right to self-determination and its current position as a colony within the political construct known as the United Kingdom.

We would draw your attention to the recent address delivered by Professor Robert Black KC at the Scottish Sovereignty Research Group (SSRG) conference in May 2025 (see below for video). Professor Black, who played a key role in the Lockerbie bombing inquiry, provides a legal and historical analysis that underpins the petition. His insights may be of particular interest given his standing in constitutional and international law.
The SSRG comprises respected professionals from multiple fields, including a former British Ambassador, leading economists, and internationally recognised academics such as Professor Alf Baird, a post-colonial scholar. Together, these voices highlight the growing questions surrounding the legitimacy of the political and constitutional relationship between Scotland and England.
It is important to emphasise that this movement is entirely non-violent and rooted in civic dialogue. Liberation Scotland promotes constructive discussion, not hostility, and is committed to ensuring that Scotland’s story is accurately and fairly represented on the global stage.
We believe this is a matter of significant international importance that deserves the attention of independent media, particularly in countries such as Australia, which have their own experience of navigating questions of sovereignty, independence, and constitutional arrangements.

Dear reader, we need your support
Independent sites such as The AIMN provide a platform for public interest journalists. From its humble beginning in January 2013, The AIMN has grown into one of the most trusted and popular independent media organisations.
One of the reasons we have succeeded has been due to the support we receive from our readers through their financial contributions.
With increasing costs to maintain The AIMN, we need this continued support.
Your donation – large or small – to help with the running costs of this site will be greatly appreciated.

Scotland be brave! Be free!
Well, I suspect that William Wallace will be pleased and King Edward 1 will not be happy!
Aren’t D Notices supposed to be about national security? What a bunch of snivelling cowards there are in Westminster that they don’t want this published.
Imagine this: Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Channel Isles, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Orkney Islands, Shetland, the Faroes and Falkland Islands all seek recognition as SELF- governing territories in accordance with international decolonisation protocols. UK would no longer be UK (as a monarchy) and maybe there would be a whole more happy people in the World.
leefe, D Notices go back to WW2 when national security was a big deal, but these days they are only suggestions and are not enforced.
A UK D Notice does not have jurisdiction in Australia.
Mediocrates… the Faroes are under Danish jurisdiction. I’ll be there next week, as am off to Norway tomorrow, then Iceland, Faroes, Shetland, Edinburgh, then London. My partner (Chinese) had to jump through so many hoops as she gathered visas for Norway (Schengen, thus includes Iceland), Denmark (because of Faroe visit, non-Schengen) & the UK.
I cheered Leef’s comment. From what Igather, Blair actually sold out the Scottish as topterleum, back at the beginning.
Enlarging on Mediocrates, I’d suggest monarchny is for show and the real problem lies in the City of London, a “a financial hub with a nation attached”
One other thing, on D notices, I can’t help thinking these, even in a diluted form, are not part of a wider problem involving censorship and misinformation, leading just at this time, into the vicious reactions of authorities to pro Gazan protestors last weekend.
I think the problem is entrenched oligarchy: the System is more cunning these days but the strangulation of press and media as “broadsheet proves that it has NOT “gone away”
Ooooops! My error about the Faroes. Faroes and Shetland always fascinated me – but I did spend time on the Orkneys.
Love the article.
And love and fully agree with Paul Walter’s statement;
“I’d suggest monarchy is for show and the real problem lies in the City of London, a “a financial hub with a nation attached.””
Mediocrates, I assume, as with I, that you fell in love with the Orkneys.
