Oxfam reaction to the Gaza IPC hunger figures

Oxfam Australia Media Release

Reacting to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report published today on Gaza warning that a risk of famine is “increasingly likely” if intense hostilities and restricted humanitarian access persist or worsen, Oxfam’s Food Security and Livelihoods Coordinator, Mahmoud Alsaqqa said:

“Gaza’s starvation is not incidental – it is deliberate, entirely engineered – and has now created the largest population facing starvation anywhere in the world – a preventable famine unfolding in real time. It is unconscionable and is being allowed to happen.

“For over two months, Israel has enforced a total siege, blocking food, water, medicine and aid, while thousands of trucks filled with life-saving supplies ready for swift distribution, are waiting at the border, meters away, blocked from entering.

“Oxfam staff and partners are witnessing scenes that defy belief: families wasting away from hunger, malnourished children too weak to cry, and entire communities surviving without food or clean water. In one displacement camp, only five of 500 families had any flour left to make bread. We distributed our last food parcels weeks ago.”

Israel’s plan to militarise the delivery of humanitarian aid – an egregious violation of international humanitarian law – threatens to push this already catastrophic crisis into full collapse. Turning aid into a tool of control endangers civilians, erodes the neutrality of humanitarian work, and risks unleashing even greater chaos and suffering across Gaza.

Silence in the face of this manmade starvation is complicity. Oxfam urges governments to demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the release of hostages and unlawfully detained prisoners, an end to the siege, unimpeded humanitarian access, and to hold Israel accountable for the use of starvation as a weapon of war.

Dear reader, we need your support

Independent sites such as The AIMN provide a platform for public interest journalists. From its humble beginning in January 2013, The AIMN has grown into one of the most trusted and popular independent media organisations.

One of the reasons we have succeeded has been due to the support we receive from our readers through their financial contributions.

With increasing costs to maintain The AIMN, we need this continued support.

  1. At the present time the Israeli regime with the backing of the US in addition to blocking aid from both the land and the sea (remember the pontoons erected by the US and aid groups to deliver aid by sea – they fell by the wayside and were frustrated by Israel) are trying to ensure that if the aid does eventually get released it will not be distributed by the existing UNRWA infrastructure for delivering aid or any other reliable and accountable organisation – including OXFAM – but be handed to ‘contractors’ under the control of the IDF.

It is time that the international community and in particular the UN demanded an end to this genocide by starvation and bombing and took over all aid distribution.

  2. RISE OF THE PALESTINIAN ENCLAVE MEGA-CONCENTRATION CAMP CONTROLLED BY ISRAEL AND USA – WAR CRIMES AND GENOCIDE, AND STILL OUR MEDIA AND GOVERNMENTS CONDONE THIS TORTURE AND INHUMANITY.

The mainstream western media cannot be trusted to tell the truth and neither can the USA given the arms they have continued to supply to Israel without conditions. The carpet bombing of the civilian population, genocide, ethnic cleansing of 2.2 million people in Gaza, a strip of land no larger than East London is nothing short of a holocaust which the world has accepted, despite many of its people criticising their governments.

Both Israel and the USA are rogue States directly involved in these war crimes and genocide, and the MSM have condoned it. And now, the smaller enclave left will be an open concentration camp administered by Israel and the USA without UN or international over view or administration, while the USA with Israel’s backing intends to acquire, level and rebuild a Riviera not for the Palestinians who have lived there for thousands of years, but for wealthy citizens of Israel and USA investors, the new colonial masters. And this will be done when more than a million people are already displaced, homeless, starving are contained in the very same confined area (a concentration camp by any other definition, not merely a ghetto) imprisoned and fed like caged cattle by Israel and the USA amongst the rubble.

What will become of the other million? Will they too suffer eventual extermination or simply be transported to some other concentration camp outside their traditional home territories? And then what of the West Bank, will Israel repeat this horror with the USA’s military weapons and financial muscle, and the Western world’s MSM, governmental and institutional blessing?

  3. Terry, the UN has known about the Israeli takedown of Palestine for decades.
I googled UN, Balfour Declaration, Palestinian Question:
‘Water works in demilitarized zone’ 1954 –
    https://www.un.org/unispal/document/auto-insert-177320/

The UN is either the most ineffective organization on the planet or they are taking the world for a ride. The Aust govt gave the UN $67m last year, for what? I’m pretty sure the reason was not to be a toothless spectator of a genocide.

Just read your comment Jon. The employees of MSM are, by definition, collaborators in genocide. They have the power to inform the public but fail at every turn, every day. First the psycho-paths came for the Jews, now they are coming for the Palestinians. Who is next?
